The disabled is a disadvantaged social group and they need love and care from more people. The disabled children have the right to education and music education for the disabled children is certainly an important part of education. In pedagogy, we generally regard children who are somewhat disabled physically or mentally and have significant lower abilities than normal children as exceptional children, such as children who are blind, deaf, or have physical or mental defects. The music education for these children is called special music education. Along with the vigorous promotion of quality-oriented education and the exciting proceeding of curriculum reform of music education, music education in our country has been greatly improved. However, most people are immersed in the joy of seeing progress in music education for normal children while few pay attention to special education schools or special music education.According to the Guidelines of the National Program for Medium-and Long-Term Educational Reform and Development (2010-2020), Caring and Supporting Special Education is edited as a separate chapter, put on the prominent position and viewed as one of the eight important tasks in the coming decade; In the Guidelines of the Program for Medium-and Long-Term Educational Reform and Development in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (2010-2020), it adheres to the public welfare and university of education and takes "promoting fairness" as the policy for pushing forward education reform and development. It lists Caring and Supporting Special Education as a single chapter and proposes "the improvement of special education system" and "the perfection of special education safeguard mechanism". In2014, the General Office of the State Council formulated and issued the Special Education Upgrading Plan (2014-2016) to carry out the spirits of the18th Session of the National People’s Congress, the Second and Third Plenary Session of the18th CPC Central Committee, implement the national guidelines, accelerate the development of special education, greatly improve special education and actually protect the education rights of the disabled. Therefore, the status research on music education in special education schools in Guangxi is of great practical significance and urgency.In special education schools, music as one of the classical disciplines is indispensible. However, the development of music education is struggling and faced with multiple difficulties in special education schools. This article finds out the obstacles for music education in special education schools by researching on the status quo of it in Guangxi and tries to put forward suggestions in order to provide alternatives for special music education.This article is divided into five parts.The first part is introduction. It is a general overview of the overall condition of the research, mainly in terms of the basis and significance of selecting this subject, research status, research scope and method.The second part defines the theoretical basics and related concepts of the research. Firstly, the music education in special education schools and many other disciplines are closely linked. Such as Eduation, psychology,Medical Science. Secondly, Theoretical basics include theories like "psychology of exceptional child","music therapy theory", etc. in pedagogy and psychology. Related concepts include "special education schools" and "music education in special education schools"The third part summarizes the status research on music education in special schools in Nanning, Liuzhou and Guilin, the three representative cities in Guangxi. It mainly contains the status quo of music curriculum provision, music teachers’quality, music classroom teaching, extracurricular music activities, music teachers’focuses, students’interest in music and parents’ attitude toward music education.The fourth part points out the problems of music education in special education schools in Guangxi. The problems are mainly embodied in the following three aspects:Mainly from the school music teaching equipment shortage, the shortage of educational funds; the level of professionalism of teachers is poor, the overall quality should be strengthened; the music teacher training opportunities, training system is not perfect and other aspects of the narrative.The fifth part puts forward suggestions for music education in special education schools in Guangxi. The suggestions are respectively the following four aspects:attach more importance to it and enhance the reserve forces for special music education; establish training mechanism and accelerate the profession alization of music teachers; practice more teaching methods and reform classroom teaching; start music activities in and out of school and communicate more about music in the whole province.This article is in the context of education development for exceptional children. Through investigating school leaders, music teachers, students and some parents from15representative special education schools in Guangxi, this article tries to present the status quo of music education in special education schools in Guangxi in a objective and comprehensive way. This can provide some useful materials for researchers and educators who engage in music education for exceptional children and help them formulate good education methods, enabling music teachers in special education schools to do their job better.
