| Objective To study the expressions of serum OPG and RANKL in COPD patientswith osteoporosisMethods Sixty elderly male patients with COPD were collected from2013April to2014April; Recorded the number of exacerbations in one year, the usage of glucocorticoid.Calculated the body mass index. Determinated the pulmonary function and bone mineraldensity. Twenty healthy men as control. Determinated the expressions of serum OPG andRANKL in each group by sandwich ELISA kits.Results1. The COPD patients had lower BMD level than normal control.2. The serum levels of RANKL and RANKL/OPG ratio were higher in COPD than innormal control (P <0.05). The serum levels of RANKL were higher in COPD with lowBMD than in COPD with normal BMD (P <0.05).3. The BMD were negatively correlated with OPGã€RANKL (r=-0.256ã€-0.332,P<0.05).4. Factors included in the multiple regression equation were as follows:BMI(β=0.275,P<0.05),RANKL(β=-0.279,P<0.05).5. The serum levels of RANKL and RANKL/OPG ratio were higher in COPD withhigh risk than in COPD with low risk (P <0.05).Conclusion The risk of suffering from osteoporosis is higher in COPD patients thanin healthy people, who may related with the change of RANKL and OPG expressions. Theimbalance of OPG and RANKL levels may be one of the main causes of the occurrenceand development of COPD patients with osteoporosis. |
