Objective:Research into the social-psychological characteristics of homeless patients with schizophrenia, explore the risk factors causing homelessness, and provide a basis for drafting intervention measures for schizophrenic patients.Method:Make independent comparison analysis, logistic regression analysis and gender difference research to social-psychological factors between116cases of homeless patients with schizophrenia and108cases of none-homeless patients with schizophrenia via Self-made general demographic questionnaire, Family Environment Scale(FES-CV), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-R Short Scale Chinese-version(EPQ-RSC), Social Support Revalued Scale(SSRS), and Ways Of Coping Questionnaire among patients in remission (BPRS total score<35).Results:1ã€Compared with the control group, male homeless patients with schizophrenia outnumber female, the rural residence are relatively large, outside Changsha and Xiangtan patients account for a large proportion, most of them with non-regular occupation, few patients own a high school diploma, relatively older, the average age was35.1years (p<0.05).2ã€Compared with the control group, homeless patients with schizophrenia had worse family conflicts, more independent and controlling, more religious and organizational abilities are poor (p≤0.015), social support score, objective support score and the utilization of support are low (p=0.000), T points in P value scale and T points in N value scale are high (p<0.011), the ability of problem solution and helping are poor, easy remorse and avoidance.(p≤0.018)3ã€By analyzing different gender groups, we have found that in the male group, unmarried and divorced are more, and most with primary school education and in the female group, more married than men, and mainly with junior school education (p≤0.017). Compared to female, male patients’emotional express is low, success and organization is strong (p≤0.011), social support score, objective support score and the utilization of support are poor (p≤0.036),E scale T points is low (p=0.020), avoidance points is high (p=0.013).4ã€By multivariate logistic regression analysis, we have found the risk factors in homeless patients with schizophrenia are origin, educational level, gender, age, intellectual support, subjective and objective support, organizational, success, quality and other factors, the OR points are19.723,4.225,2.744,2.325,10.288,10.001,7.984,7.502,1.754,1.237. Career, intimacy, as well as extrovert personality are protective factors of homelessness. The OR points are0.307,0.837,0.693.Conclusion:1ã€Most of homeless patients with schizophrenia are from rural areas, male patients are more than female, and a main part of them are adults and poorly-educated.2ã€They have more family contradictions, poor organizations, strong personal independence and the desire to control. Their social support is poor, poor problem-solving ability, and reluctant to accept help from others, prone to self-blame and avoidance. Also, they are typically having psychiatric and neurotic personality.3ã€The homeless patients with schizophrenia also have gender difference. Compare with women, men’s marital status is poor, the subjective use of social support is not high, somewhat introverted personality, unwilling to express their inner feelings, are more vulnerable to avoidance behavior, but organization and success is higher than the female.4ã€Outside Changsha and Xiangtan, poor education, worse marital status,men, less intimacy and organizations, strong personal independence and the desire to succeed, poor subjective and objective support, psychiatric personality were factors causing homeless patients with schizophrenia. |
