Objective:This paper reports on two cases of gingival recontouring by the fabrication of a provisional implant restoration to produce an optimal emergence profile of a definitive implant restoration.Methods:Collect5patients in the Oral Implant Center of Zhejiang University Dental Hospital Medical College of Zhejiang University. These patients were all lost their teeth in the maxillary esthetic zone. We evaluate the risk of esthetic and the width of alveolar ridge, assistant with the data form CBCT; design the best implant project to restore the lost teeth. And further recontour the gingival by a provisional implant restoration about2months definitive implant restoration.Result:(1) All these implants meet the criteria of implant success.(2) At the first insertion of the provisional restoration, gum bleaching revealed gingival pressure. Four to six weeks after placing the provisional restoration, the gum reformed with harmony between the peri-implant gingiva and adjacent dentition. Pink esthetic score:Case1:mesial papilla2, distal papilla1, level of soft-tissue margin2, soft-tissue contour2, alveolar process2, soft-tissue color2, soft-tissue texture2.The total score is13.Case2:mesial papilla1, distal papilla1, level of soft-tissue margin2, soft-tissue contour1, alveolar process2, soft-tissue color1, soft-tissue texture1. The total score is10.Case3:mesial papilla1, distal papilla0, level of soft-tissue margin0, soft-tissue contour0, alveolar process1, soft-tissue color1, soft-tissue texture1. The total score is4.Case4:mesial papilla0, distal papilla2, level of soft-tissue margin1, soft-tissue contour0, alveolar process1, soft-tissue color1, soft-tissue texture1. The total score is6.Case5:mesial papilla1, distal papilla1, level of soft-tissue margin1, soft-tissue contour1, alveolar process1, soft-tissue color1, soft-tissue texture1. The total score is7.Conclusion:The implant restoration with the optimal emergence profile is expected to provide superior esthetic and functional results. Gingival recontouring by a provisional implant restoration before definitive implant restoration is necessary.
