PurposeTo analyses the requirements and status of the nursing postgraduates in Henan province byinvestigating the tertiary hospitals and the nursing colleges. The questionnaires are focused on: what are therequirements for the nursing postgraduates by the different employers, What are the differences amongthem if there is any. How to improve the cultivation mode of the nursing postgraduates by the provincialcolleges and universities, to cultivate the desirable nursing postgraduates for different employers,meanwhile, to provide the basis and references for the nursing educators as well as nursing managers, toprovide the guidance for the nursing postgraduates.MethodTo be done by e-mail, and mailing system to send and collect the questionnaires. By252humanresource managers from the tertiary hospitals at the provincial level and the nursing colleges areinterviewed. The questionnaire is composed of two sections. One is the general information about theinterviewees. The other is for nursing postgraduates demanded by the tertiary hospitals and nursing scholarcolleges. The statistical software named SPSS13.0is adopted for analysis.Results1. The number of the nursing postgraduates demanded by the different employersThe nursing postgraduates mean number in the provincial nursing colleges is much higher than thetertiary hospitals(P<0.001). The planned mean numbers for the nursing postgraduates in the following5years by the provincial nursing colleges is higher than the counterparts in the hospitals(P<0.001). It is ofnotable statistical meaning. The higher vocational education colleges and technical secondary schools havethe biggest plan in the following5years for the new enrollment..2. The requirements for the nursing postgraduates by the different employers①As for the first degree of the nursing postgraduates, the nursing colleges and the tertiary hospitalsshall be bachelor.②As for the degrees of the graduates, the nursing colleges and the tertiary hospitalsshare the same opinion that both of them are acceptable, P>0.05, no statistical meaning for the difference.③The nursing colleges offer the permanent employment for the nursing postgraduates much higher than the tertiary hospitals(P<0.001).④The nursing education and nursing scientific research are focused forthe nursing postgraduates in the nursing colleges. The nursing scientific research; the nursing management;and the clinical nursing experts are focused for the nursing postgraduates in the tertiary hospitals. Thedifference is of statistical meaning(P<0.001).⑤When enrolling the nursing postgraduates, the followingfactors are mostly valued by the employers: comprehensive performance during the interview; Englishliteracy; school achievement; clinical working experience; graduated college; and the graduation thesisquality. The following factors are least valued: local graduates or not; married or not; male or female;political status; and personal specialty.⑥The top five factors valued by the nursing colleges are: clinicalnursing know-how; nursing theory; nursing scientific research; and medical basis. The tertiary hospitalsvalues the following five factors mostly: clinical nursing know-how; nursing theory; medical basis; majorrelated know-how; and clinical medicine. The least valued part is the Chinese medical basis. The medicallaw; sanitary policy; educational backgrounds; and management know-how are compared, the difference isof statistical meaning due to the result that P<0.05.⑦The top three abilities for the diversified kinds ofemployers to enroll nursing postgraduates are listed hereby: clinical practice; teaching\clinic and scientificresearch; communication and cooperation. The least valued abilities are self-development; ethical anddecision making. The teaching\clinic and scientific research ability; educational guidance ability; harmonymanagement ability; self-development ability are checked by the t test by the diversified kinds ofemployers. the difference is of statistical meaning due to the result that P<0.05.⑧The ethical and moralfactors valued by the nursing colleges are professional ethics; sense of duty; self-supervision spirit; politicalideological quality. The tertiary hospitals value the following factors sequentially are sense of duty;self-supervision spirit; professional ethics; political ideological quality; self-supervision spirit andprofessional ethics are compared and check by the t test, the difference is of statistical meaning due to theresult that P<0.05.3. The requirements for employment guidance which the employers should strengthen in colleges.The nursing colleges should still strengthen the employment guidance to colleges. First of all,theyshould guide the postgraduates to apply for a job. Next, the postgraduates should be taught how to choose acareer, which is contrary to the work of employment guidance in the tertiary hospitals. At the same time,there isn’t a high demand for entrepreneurial guidance in the diversified kinds of employers Conclusion1.The nursing postgraduates in Henan province are mainly demanded by the tertiary hospitals and thenursing colleges. In the following5years, the nursing colleges demand more nursing postgraduates thanthe tertiary hospitals. The higher vocational education colleges and technical secondary schools have thebiggest plan in the following5years for the new enrollment.2.The difference exists in the factors of positions; job requirements; critical capabilities; theoreticalknow-how etc. when the tertiary hospitals and the colleges in Henan province treat the nursingpostgraduates.3.Diversified types of employers hope to cultivate the postgraduates in the professional career planand development skills.
