Background: With the aging of the population, dementia has become one of the world’sbiggest health problem and significant burden of disease and public health problem inmany countries. In2011, about36.5million people worldwide suffered from dementia.There were8million patients in China where the number of patients was the most allover the world. Global burden of disease assessment showed that11.2%disabledelderly people aged60and above were caused by dementia, the proportion was higherthan that of stroke(9.5%), musculoskeletal disorders (8.9%) and cardiovasculardisease(5.0%). As with other countries, dementia has brought our country society,family and personal burden.Because Caregivers in the process of care for dementiapatients suffered psychological, economic and other pressure, the body health level andquality of life in caregivers were poor. Therefore, more attention should be pay todementia caregivers.Objective:This study aims to study the status of dementia,care for patient withdementia and caregiver burden in China,call for social attention to dementia caregivers,establish an effective care model, improve quality of life in caregivers, promoteuniversal dementia cognitive and provide guidance and advice for policy makers tomake health policies and measures.Methods:2011in Anhui,Shanxi,Heilongjiang,Shanghai,Guangdong Province, basedon the baseline survey follow-up survey. After the people surveyed agreed to householdquestionnaire survey. Dementia cases10/66dementia screening adopt internationalresearch collaboration to provide screening tool (The elderly mental health scale,cognitive test scale,CSI-’D’ scale and computer-aided diagnostic program) risk factors and self-designed questionnaire. Data using Epidata3.0double entry, using SPSS16.0statistical software for analysis. Count data expressed as a rate or proportion, with theChi-square test, risk factors using logistic regression analysis.Results:(1)The survey collected3574valid data, of which335people were diagnosedwith Alzheimer’s disease diagnostic system, prevalence of9.4%. Prevalence of femalethan for male,were5.9%and2.7%.(2)125people need to care for dementia patients,Theaverage age of caregivers for patients with dementia was55.88±15.31,Patients’children and daughter-in-law or son-in-law accounted for47.2%of the caregivers,patients’ spouse23.2%.75.8%of the caregivers lived together with the patients.90.3%were married or cohabited.(3)25%caregivers have reduced or stopped working.Stopworking hours on average26.9±67.7months.Caregivers in the past24hours,communicating with patients,.help the elderly to eat, help to go to the bathroom,help bathe and clothe a larger percentage of the more than1hour.(4)63.2%of caregiversthink care for dementia patients to cause your burden.Conclusions:(1)Among patients with dementia and dementia in the care of time there’sa difference, to care for dementia patients more time.(2)Caregivers consists of one ormore members of the family, because of care stop or reduce the work, increase theburden of caregivers.(3)Research is qualitative descriptions of caregiver burden,recommend that future study and formulate specific burden scale, quantitative estimateburden size.Suggestions:(1)Increased Alzheimer’s research and knowledge dissemination, targetedintervention,establishing dementia care system.(2) Strengthening intervention, reducingthe burden of caregivers, improving care and quality of life.
