Objectives: Evaluate the longtime efficary of bipolar transurethral plasmakineticprostatectomy (TUPKP) for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods: From July2011to June2012, cases of BPH/LUTS undergone TUPKPwere analyzed retrospectively by telephones, evaluated the International ProstateSymptom Score (I-PSS) before surgery and after surgery (total score of I-PSS,I-PSS of storage symptoms,I-PSS of voiding symptoms), total score of Quality OfLife(QOL) and Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS), et al.Results:92cases with BPH/LUTS were followed up more than half year afteroperation,38cases were followed up between6months to12months after surgery, the preoperative and postoperative average total score of I-PSS were28.39±2.67and8.53±4.64respectively, the preoperative and postoperative average storage symptomsscore of I-PSS were17.08±1.82and6.45±2.87respectively, the preoperative andpostoperative average voiding symptoms score of I-PSS were11.32±1.21and2.08±2.01respectively, the preoperative and postoperative average score of QOLwere5.29±0.52and2.11±1.31respectively, the preoperative and postoperativeaverage score of OABSS were10.92±1.22and5.74±2.25respectively.54werefollowed up between12months to18months after surgery, the average total score ofI-PSS decreased from28.98±2.74pre-operation to7.94±3.61post-operation, theaverage storage symptoms score of I-PSS decreased from17.02±1.70pre-operation to from11.96±1.54pre-operation to2.28±1.76post–operation, the average score ofQOL decreased from5.39±0.49pre-operation to1.93±1.06post-operation, theaverage score of OABSS decreased from10.65±1.66pre-operation to5.41±2.17post-operation. In all92cases followed up from6months to18months, the averagetotal score of I-PSS decreased from28.74±2.71pre-operation to8.18±4.05post-operation, the average storage symptoms score of I-PSS decreased from17.04±1.74pre-operation to6.00±2.74post-operation, the average voiding symptomsscore of I-PSS decreased from11.70±1.44pre-operation to2.20±1.86post-operation,the average score of QOL decreased from5.35±0.50pre-operation to2.00±1.17post-operation, the average score of OABSS decreased from10.76±1.49pre-operationto5.54±2.20post-operation. Total score of I-PSS (I-PSS of storage symptoms,I-PSSof voiding symptoms), total score of Quality Of Life (QOL) and Overactive BladderSymptom Score (OABSS) were significantly lower in pre-operation than inpost-operation (P <0.05). At the followed-up time between6months to12monthsafter surgery,5(13.16%)were dissatisfied or bored with the current LUTS (QOL≥4),other31(86.84%) were satisfied with the current LUTS (QOL<4),26(68.42%) stillsuffered from overactive bladder (OAB) symptom,4(10.53%) cases had mild OABsymptom,21(55.26%) had moderate OAB symptom and1(2.26%) OAB symptomwere severe.. At the followed-up time between12months to18months after surgery,4(7.41%)were dissatisfied or bored with the current LUTS (QOL≥4), other50(92.59%) were satisfied with the current LUTS (QOL<4),38(70.37%) still hadOAB symptom,10(18.52%) cases had mild OAB symptom,28(51.85%) hadmoderate OAB symptom and nonone was severe. In all92cases followed up from6months to18months after surgery,9(9.78%)were dissatisfied or bored with thecurrent LUTS (QOL≥4), other83(90.78%) were satisfied with the currentLUTS(QOL<4),64(69.57%) still suffered from OAB symptom,14(15.22%) caseshad mild OAB symptom,49(53.26%) had moderate OAB symptom and1(1.09%)were severe.1developed incontinence,1developed urethral stricture followeddilation of urethra,1OAB symptom improved poorly and treated by paracenteticpuprapubic cystostomy,1nonresponder treated via secondary TUPKP. Conclusions: Lower urinary tract symptoms especially voiding symptoms inpatients with BPH/LUTS were improved significantly after TUPKP, but storagesymptoms especially OAB symptom were still present in many.cases It is worthwhileto pay more attention to taken an active treatment and to follow-up visit frequently bymedical workers.
