Objective To investigate the roles of SNP rs4072037in the MUC1gene in Helicobacterpylori (H.pylori) infection and non-cardia gastric cancer risk by case-control associationstudy in Baotou Han population. And to supply the experimental data and theoretical basisfor disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Methods In the present study,292caseswith non-cardia gastric cancer and287normal controls were recruited. All patients werepathologically confirmed. Controls were frequency-matched to cases by gender and age.All subjects were unrelated Han Chinese, and had been in Baotou for more than5years.SNP rs4072037was genotyped by sequence specific primers-polymerase chain reaction(PCR-SSP). H. pylori infection was detected by ELISA in normal controls and93randomly selected patients. And the data was analyzed by unconditional logisticregression to evaluate the association of SNP rs4072037with H. pylori infection, as wellas non-cardia gastric cancer risk. Results (1) There were225males and67females incases with non-cardia gastric cancer. The age was between26and83years, and the meanage was59.47±11.22years. In normal controls, there were223males and64females.The age was from26to85years, and the mean age was59.10±11.56years.(2) Therates of H. pylori infection were43.6%and26.9%in controls and cases, respectively.(3)In controls, age and sex were not associated with H. pylori infection.(4) SNP rs4072037followed Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in both cases and controls. And SNP rs4072037was not associated with H. pylori infection, as well as non-cardia gastric cancer risk. Conclusions (1) The infection rate of H. pylori in Baotou Han population is43.6%. Inorder to decrease the risk of chronic gastritis, chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric ulcer, andgastric cancer, measures should be taken to decrease the H. pylori infection rate.(2) SNPrs4072037were not associated with H. pylori infection, as well as non-cardia gastriccancer risk. Further studies are needed to confirm our results.
