Helical seal is a kind of non-contact seal. Its biggest advantage is can provide a good seal even if there is a big gap between the sealing elements. In recent decades, helical seal has been successful applied in nuclear power, space device and high-speed centrifugal compressor etc.At present, the main reason for the development of helical seal is theory cannot satisfy the engineering application. In order to make Crease’s formula better reflect the sealing ability of the helical seal, the effect of viscosity and eccentric are considered in the formula. In addition, the CFD numerical simulation method is used for the following research:(1) Through comparing the theoretical value and numerical calculation value, this paper proved that the improvement of Crease’s formula is reasonable.(2) The influence of seal clearance, groove depth, thread number and relative slot width on the sealing performance were researched, and obtained the optimum parameters of the helical seal. Provide a reference for parameter selection of helical seal under the laminar flow.Finally, the grey correlation analysis method has been used to study the influence ability of parameters on the sealing performance.
