In order to suppress the chatter and improve the quality of mechanical ruling grating, mechanism of chatter for grating mechanical ruling is researched in this paper. First of all, from the starting point for forming system instability, mechanism of frictional chatter for grating mechanical ruling is researched and analyzed, the dynamic model for Roof diamond tool and elastic tool post is established, and the stability of chatter system in Z direction is analyzed, the stability condition is concluded. At the same time, chatter from the energy point is researched and analyzed, and the same stability condition is obtained. Then, the simulation model of chatter for grating mechanical ruling is upbuilt by MATLAB/Simulink, the influence of various kinetic parameters and ruling parameters on chatter is analyzed, the measures to suppress chatter is proposed. The dynamic characteristic of ruling tool-post system is analyzed by ANSYS/Workbench. Finally, the precondition for the establishment of frictional chatter and the stability condition of system is proved through mechanical ruling tests with test equipment using for grating ruling.
