Absorption heat pump is a kind of heating equipment driven byhigh-temperature heat source like steam, which is applied to transfer heatfrom low grade heat source to high grade heat source to recycle waste heat. Itis quite suitable for the thermal power plant where huge low grade heat exists.Huge amount of low grade waste heat is generated in power plants, existing inthe forms of circulating cooling water and steam turbines’ low pressureexhaust steam. Due to its low grade, it is not able to be used directly, which iswasted usually. We developed a kind of absorption heat pump used for thewaste heat recovery of the exhaust steam generated by power turbines, whichis applied to district heating. This unit employs the exhaust steam as lowtemperature source, which releases heat during condensation (to releasecondensation heat) inside the evaporator tubes. Due to its large volume, theflow resistance is very large correspondingly, therefore, special design shouldbe made for the evaporator’s structure to enlarge the cross area of the exhauststeam in order to make sure the steam flows smoothly. The overall processes of the research and development of the unit arestudied, including its thermodynamic calculation, design, manufacturing, debugging and experimental test. Besides, we also discuss the operatingprinciples, structure and component, production technology and the method ofoperation and debugging. Meanwhile, we establish a mathematics model forthe unit and develop program adopted for design and simulation calculationemploying object oriented programming language. This program is selecteddue to its powerful calculation ability and friendly interface with convenientinput and output functions. Users can employ this program for designparameters or simulation analysis. We carry out experimental test for the unit actually. It shows that therecovery heat of the exhaust steam account for51.9percent of the heating steam consumption and the actual performance meet design requirement.Meanwhile, the actual performance could meet the requirements for themathematics modal of the unit, which is acceptably accurate and could beused for the project application. Besides, the heat transfer data are obtainedfrom the test, which can be beneficial to the design and manufacture ofabsorption heat pump.
