In recent years, industry cluster has developed rapidly. However, a lot of traditional manufacturing clusters need to upgrade. Under the circumstances that many clustered firms are lack of R&D investment, they can not obtain innovative advantage with their own resources and capabilities. As a result, inbound open innovation is probably a helpful way for clustered firms to enhance their innovation performance.Open innovation is a hot topic in the field of innovation management. Based on the direction of knowledge flow, open innovation includes inbound open innovation and outbound open innovation. Considering the factor that outbound open innovation is used limitedly, this dissertation is focus on inbound open innovation of clustered firms.Under the practical and theoretical background, there are tow issues of this dissertation. The first one is to verify the mechanism of how openness influence clustered firm’s innovation performance. The second one is to study the differences of the impact of openness on clustered firm’s innovation performance in different situations. The main work of this study follows bellow.(1) This study reviewed literatures on cluster innovation and open innovation. Based on the literature review, this study constructed a framework, which shows the mechanism of how openness affect clustered firm’s innovation performance. Besides, the author studied the moderating role of absorptive capacity and network centrality.(2) During the research, the author visited and investigated several industrial clusters in Zhejiang Province. Data was collected by the means of questionnaires. Totally,225questionnaires were handed out.116questionnaires were valid.(3) The author analyzed the data collected by questionnaire by SPSS and Amos. The methods include confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The hypotheses were tested.By empirical testing, the main conclusions include:first, knowledge acquiring mediates the impact of openness on innovation performance. Second, the potential absorptive capacity plays a moderating role between openness and knowledge acquiring. The realized absorptive capacity plays a moderating role between knowledge acquiring and innovation performance. The network centrality plays a moderating role between the depth of openness and knowledge acquiring. Finally, the article discusses the theoretical contributions and practical significance of the study.
