Design And Realization Book Acquisition Decision-making System In University Libraries Based On Data Mining

Book Acquisition is the basis of library collection building and the layout of literature. It is an important issue to solve how to conduct scientific book acquisition and collection building to serve the university’s collection of disciplines and meet the needs of readers. The current library automation systems rarely involve decisions on how to make the book acquisition, and usually only reserve an interface to pass decision-making information for policy makers. Mostly decision-makers depend on empirical methods or experts, and are susceptible to subjective factors and the lack of comprehension.The thesis studies the theoretical basis for book acquisition and analysis the factors of book acquisition. According to the classification, clustering and association methods of data mining, we mine the decision-making factors affecting book acquisition, provide book acquisition with decision support, design and implement data mining based book acquisition decision-making system.The thesis has following three contributions:First, we study the characteristics and nature of the university library and the theory of book acquisition, analysis book acquisition process to determine the factors affecting the decision-making book acquisition. Combined with data mining decision tree, Kmean and Apriori algorithm, book acquisition decision-making system is designed and the system can provide direct results of decisions and the number of copies.Secondly, book acquisition decision-making system based on data mining uses the Weka package in SQL Server2005database with C/S mode. According to the disciplines and the collection states, the system distributes the funds to various disciplines with a reasonable distribution. Not only due to the decision tree methods new books are decided whether to stock, but also the potential readers of books are provided. Then the library catalog of new book can be sent to related specific readers to evaluate the new books. According to readers’feedback, the results of book acquisition with decision-making can be corrected. The system is not just a single tool to provide a scientific analysis of the decision-making, but also to obtain a direct assessment of the reader, and combine the two parts together organically.Finally, the system is applied in Hunan University Library purchases. Those books which Hunan University purchased in recent months are inputted into the system for decision-making.The decision-making results provide guidance.
