In the colorful nature, a variety of luminous beams woven into beautiful scenery.Under the effect of light, translucent objects show a variety of complex optical phenomena.The translucent material occupies a very important position in the nature, and is also hotand difficult in computer graphics research. Jade is one of the translucent materials, peopleappreciate it for its beautiful appearance and rich inherence. In Jade rendering algorithms,simulation of light scattering has become an important part. When the lights enter thetranslucent material, they will become single scattering or multiple scattering, some ofthem will be absorbed in the material.There are a lot of researches for translucent material, while there are few researchesfor Jade. This paper makes an analysis about the light reflection and refraction property ofjade surface and internal for the real-time3D rendering of jade, propose an improvedBSSRDF rendering model. Recording to the physical property of refraction, this modelcalculates the single scattering term based on the double refraction property, combiningwith the multiple scattering term, using Phong model for jade’s high light, using texture forjade rich inherence. Then we achieve the rendering of the different types of jade.(1) Research about the physical properties of jade deeply; propose the renderingmodel for translucent material based on the double refraction, which would implement theunique characteristics of jade.(2) Improve the algorithm of BSSRDF rendering model for translucent material,implement the scattering ray tracing based on birefringence. The BSSRDF algorithm iscomposed by single-scattering and multiple scattering. The improved algorithm adds thedouble refraction effect to the calculation of the single scattering term, and deducts the raytracing formula by its physical concept. The single scattering term and multiple scatteringterm are computing parallel, and jade is rendered translucent.(3) Study the difference in physical optics about different types of jade, and introducedifferent rendering parameters corresponding to the proposed double refraction-basedscattering ray tracing rendering models. In this paper, we use Phong model for renderingjade’s high light to implement the rendering effect for nephrite and jadeite respectively. (4) Comparing the running speed between new rendering algorithm with existingalgorithm, we can come to the conclusion that the rendering of jade by improved algorithmhas improved significantly, and the new algorithm has faster running speed.
