Movies begun to be brought into China in the end of19th century and early20th century, and watching movies became people cultural and consumption habits in Shanghai which was the earliest opened. In this context, movies and movie publications became popular and the Linloog Women’s Magazine and its Movies Weekly begun to be issued. From the first phase in1931to the last one in1937, the Linloog Women’s Magazine and its Movies Weekly reported everything about movies honestly. Many kinds of movie stars’pictures and dapper movie news and reviews not only offered a lot of help to people to know and like movies but also showed the original appearance of the western and Chinese movies world in the1930’s, which included the visual enjoyment and text sentiment.The author read the content of all298phases from1931to1937and analyzed the development trajectory and content characters of the Movie Weekly relying on the rich historical data base. The chapter Ⅰwhich is Introduction mainly introduced the purpose of this article and existing research overview. The main body includes four chapters.The chapter II mainly introduced the background when the Movie Weekly begun to be published. This chapter which specially addressed the urban cultural environment and the movie trend includes five sections:the old Shanghai urban culture during the republic of China period, the prevalence of Hollywood movies, cinemas in Shanghai and people who watch movies, movie publications in old Shanghai.Chapter III is the preliminary introduction of the Linloog Magazine and the Movies Weekly. After the introduction of location, context characters, founder and main editors of the Linloog Magazine, it introduced the Movies Weekly carefully, including the reason of titling’Movie’, development of the ups and downs and the reasons that made this change.Chapter IV analyzes the main contents of the Movie Weekly specially according to photos and characters. In the photos contents, female movie stars’photos, especially American Hollywood movie stars almost occupied more than half place of the Movie Weekly contents. Most of these photos often hold the whole or half of one forum, and many female stars in these photos behavior among which showed the modern fashion and became spokesman of the consumption of popular culture. In the character contents, the Movie Weekly not only offered a lot of movie information and analyzed films’ pros and cons but also dare to criticize some problems in the movie industry in that time and proposed some helpful suggests. Besides these contents, it also set up big space to report the news about movie stars and their emotional changes and its purpose is to give people with helpful guidance. The facts that female stars were paid more closely attention indicated Male Chauvinism not only in the past but also now. Compared to the Young Companion which was another famous large general publication, high capacity, many types and preference for western films were the Movie Weekly’s three characters.Chapter V makes use of the Linloog Magazine and the Movie Weekly to analyze the close relationship between movies, movie publications and popular culture. the development of popular culture speeds up the movie’s coming to being and development, the rise of movies promotes movie publications flourish, movie and movie publications advance the popular culture to be more popular, more entertainment in return.At last, the Conclusion simply analyzed the historical values of the Linloog Magazine and its Movie Weekly and some available experience for future generations to learn.This article tried its best to show readers the characters and fascination of the Linloog Magazine and its Movie Weekly. Of course, because of the time and its own limitations, the Movie Weekly can’t to be compared with the developed professional movie publications today about news report’s in-depth and the scope and the content’s delicate nature. However, being one successful movie publication, there must be some good place for future generation to study. Additionally, through the shallow analysis, advancing them in front of people could be a little addition to the Republic of China period movie publications research and expands the research especially about the Movie Weekly. It’s a pity that its full view and more select couldn’t be showed because of the large amount of its phases, various contents and the author’s limited energy. There still is a lot of study field for many scholars to research more deep and compensate this article’s regret.
