Two-dimensional barcode PDF417has the advantages of large capacity, high reliability, strong anti-jamming and high-speed reading ability compared to traditional one-dimensional bar code, and it can be widely used in the field of commercial distribution, warehousing, health, postal, railway, transport, security checks, ticket management and production automation management, with the advent of the information age, there is a growing tendency to the integration of computer, communications and electronic. The development of bar code identification equipment toward miniaturization, intelligence and networking, two-dimensional barcode reading based on embedded systems has far reaching significance.The PDF417code knowledge and research trends in domestic and abroad were introduce in this paper, analyzes the structural features of PDF417code, gives the ways of bar-code encoding and decoding, and a method of PDF417bar-code detection and localization in complicated scene was proposed in this paper, Based-on analyzing the structural characteristics of bar-code, the region of interest was extract according to the multiple characteristics analysis. Then the code was located by detecting the column separated edge. A binarization method was given based on local mean and localvariance threshold of the bar code area in a non-uniform illumination area, it can overcome the non-uniform illumi-nation of the barcode image effectively. And bilinear interpolation method was used to correct geometric distortion, solve the impact of image distortion on the bar code information. After adjustment, a neighborhood tag-based approach was proposed to identify the unit symbol character.A PDF417two-dimensional bar code based embedded system’s hardware and software were designed, and it implemented the identify- cation and decoding of PDF417two-dimensional barcode.
