Chinese National Newspaper In Minority Female Image Research

The research of "Gender and Media" has developed gradually in the mass communication. However, the research on female image of ethnic minorities in newspapers in our country is quite few. In this paper the authoritative paper China Ethic News is chosen to research the ethic female image comprehensively, in order to offer an new point of view about news reports on ethic women.This thesis is composed of five following parts:The first part introduces the purpose of the paper, the object, the question and the method of the study. The ethic female image in China Ethic News is analyzed with the method of content analysis and text analyzing, in order to fulfill the purpose that the research will enrich theory academic results on female image study.The second part is the introduction of the study between gender and medium, which is to summarize this subject of state of the field, according to process and results of study at home and abroad.In the third part the author adopts content analysis method and makes generative description on the general characteristics of162female images of ethnic minority as the main characters in China Ethic News from January1st,2008to December31th,2010as well as January1st,2008to December31th,2010with a total number of300periods. In the fourth part, according to the results of quantitative statistics, the author uses text analysis to make qualitative analysis for further research on gender meaning after the ethic female image to discuss what kind of ethic female image in China Ethic News is and how the image is constructed.In the fifth part, the research findings show that when the ethic female image is represented in Ethic News, the gender prejudice is implicit rather than apparent. In accordance with the analysis, from the perspective of quantity, the stereotype of the representation of ethic female images in Ethic News does not exist. In the process of deep understanding, the potential prejudice will be emerged. Which can be represented that the female must hold housework and speak highly of the women’s self-contribution.This paper makes a preliminary research on the relative factors that influence ethic female images in China Ethic News:the establishment of outer policies and regulations; the arousal of women’s self-awareness; the improvement of social gender viewpoint; the inveteracy of traditional culture and social conventions; the invigoration effect social medium environment. Then it gives some suggestions to transmission practical work:on one hand, promoting the development of women should be the starting point of news report; mainly report the positive image of women and provide helpful information for them. On the other hand, the media staff should set multi-view points, tolerance concept and right gender view.
