The next generation of wireless communication system has higher requirements in terms of transmission quality and transmission rate. The main factor which influences the transmission quality and rate of wireless communication system is fading caused by multipath effect of transmitted signals. Multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technology has attracted great attention in wireless communications, because it offers significant increases in data throughput and link range without additional bandwidth or increased transmit power. It achieves this goal by spreading the same total transmit power over the antennas to achieve an array gain that improves the spectral efficiency (more bits per second per hertz of bandwidth) or to achieve a diversity gain that improves the link reliability (reduced fading). However, it cannot overcome frequency selective fading. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) technology is very robust against frequency selective fading. The combination of the two technologies, MIMO-OFDM system, is robust against multipath fading, and has high spectrum efficiency. Because of these properties, MIMO-OFDM is an important technology of modern wireless communications. In this paper, the signal detection technology influencing MIMO wireless communication system is being researched. This paper firstly introduced MIMO-OFDM system and discussed the working principle and signal processing. Then, we introduced the existing detection algorithm of MIMO wireless communication system, including the optimal detection algorithm, linear detection algorithm and nonlinear detection algorithm. The study results proved that the optimal detection algorithm provided the best performance, but the computational complexity is too high and it is too complicated to realize. Although the linear detection algorithm is computational simple and is easy to realize, its performance is poor. The performance of nonlinear detection algorithm is better than linear detection algorithm, but the computational complexity and storage is higher and it is harder to realize. As discussed above, the existing detection algorithms cannot balance between performance and computational complexity. To address this issue, this paper proposed a new low complexity, low storage, and higher performance detection algorithm called ICC algorithm. Our ICC algorithm makes full use of receiving diversity, and is unlike OSIC algorithm which has complicated sort computation and high storage. Our algorithm can be divided into two classes:sorted ICC algorithm and unsorted ICC algorithm. We analyzed the performance of our algorithm through simulation experiments. And the results have demonstrated excellent performance of ICC algorithm. In addition, to address the issue that low signal-to-noise ratio may worsen error diffusion, this paper proposed a partial judgment ICC algorithm. And we have proved that this algorithm performed better than ICC algorithm through simulation experiments.
