Network video image capture and display technology is becoming more and moreimportant with the increasing demand for information, progress of the networktechnology and the rise of the Internet of Things. But the existing system of networkvideo image capture and display based on PC (personal computer) has somedisadvantages as follows, high cost, bulky and resource not fully utilized. Meanwhile,the embedded system with low power consumption, small size and low cost can makeup for the lack of personal computer. The combination of this system with embeddedtechnology has wide application prospect and practical value with the development ofthe embedded technology. It becomes one of ifs development trends.This paper analyzes and summarizes the video image capture and display system’sstatus of the research and development trend, design and implement the video imagecapture and display system based on embedded Linux operation system and ARMmicro-processor, combined with the embedded technology’s advantages such as lowcost, low power consumption, high stability, etc. In the aspect of hardware, it takesARM microprocessors S3C2440A as the hardware platform. In the aspect of Software,th software development environment including the establishment ofcross-compilation environment and Linux system’s transplantation is established. Themicro-processor, NAND FLASH memory chip and USB camera of the hardwareplatform are described. The function of the system’s software part and the realizationof the key code are introduced detailedly. The capture of the video image by using thenew version Video4Linux2 is realized. The transmission of the video data iscompleted by using socket programming based on Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) and JRTPLIB library based on Real-time transport protocol (RTP) separately.The display part is developed and realized by using Simple Direct Media Layer in theWindows environment. Finally, a brief compare and analysis of the video imagesbased on Transmission Control Protocol and Real-time transport protocol iscompleted.The design of network video image capture and display system based on ARMmicro-processor is low cost, small and easy to install, realizes the functions of videoimage capture and display.
