University Internationalization Development Research

The internationalization of university is the carrier of higher education internationalization. This thesis based on higher education internationalization gradually analyzes the theory of university internationalization in our country and then to do the empirical research with Y university as an example in order to reflect on restricting reasons for our university international development. This paper also analyzes the University of Michigan (MSU) internationalization development in the United States so as to reflect disadvantages of the development of university internationalization in China, and to put forward the countermeasures as well.This study firstly does deeply analysis on the concept, characteristics, content and the development of university internationalization based on the theory of higher education internationalization. Secondly, according to Y university yearbook, Y university internationalization can be divided into initial, loosen (1992-1998) and beginning, developing (1999-) two stages. From the aspects of international concept and planning, international organization setup, teacher’s structure internationalization, students structure internationalization, course international, scientific research of internationalization and the Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools, this paper does the investigation of Y University and finds that there are some following problems existing in the development of internationalization of Y University. International development strategies need to be put into practice, internationalization of teachers and students need to be improved and internationalization of courses needs to be emphasized. This paper argues that there are four main aspects leading to these situation, namely the concept of international school-running is not thoroughly popular; the internationalization of personnel consciousness needs to be further improved; the shortage of funds required for the development of internationalization; guarantee system of internationalization development has not been perfected yet. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the internationalization of the MSU which is the model of international university on the basis of internationalized development process of American universities. MSU has its unique internationalization development model, that is ISP (International studies and Programs), and focuses on strengthening international flow of personnels especially students, starts international exchange project guided by various international exchange organizations. Moreover it innovates new mode of the Confucius institute, and raises money to provide economic security for international activities. These practices provide the following enlightenments for the internationalization development of universities in our country. Universities in our country should make long-term planning for international education development with talents training as our essential starting point as well as the end and set up international service system of high quality, integrating social resources and expand the international aid channel, promoting university internationalization through inner-college cooperation.This paper finally considers the countermeasures of promoting international development of universities. Along with the rapid development of export-oriented economy, Chinese universities fully advance internationalization development in reference to foreign universities internationalization combined with the conditions of themselves and train internationalized talents and promote the development of their own as well. Universities in our country should take advantages of geographical superiority and become "international business card" for the local city in turns and use their own "academic innovation" to promote "science and technology of the city, carrying out peculiar internationalization construction as well. On the other hand, universities should set up international concept of school-running, strengthening international construction of teachers and expanding the scale of international training of students, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation.
