Background:We used to consider that diabetic patient had worse outcomes in peri-operative period compared to nondiabetics after coronary artery bypass grafting(CABG).This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of diabetic patients compared to nondiabetic following isolated CABG.Purpose:We aimed to compare the outcomes of patients undergoing CABG with or without diabetes millitus.Material and Methods:From September2011to October2012,the relevant pre-,intra-,and postoperative materials of randomly selected124CABG patients in our hospital were investigated and analyzed retrospectively. In this study, diabetes is defined as as the need for oral medication or insulin. However diabetes patients managed with nutritional therapy alone were not included in this study.Statistical analysis was performed using an SPSS18.0statistical software package. All P values<0.05were considered to indicate statistical significance. The unpaired t-test or t’-test according to homogeneity test for variance was used to compare measurement data.and chi-square analysis was used to compare enumeration data in univariate analysis.Stepwise multivariate logistic regression was also performed to assess the influence of diabetes as an independent risk factor on hospital morality and major postoperative morbidities. Results:A total of67diabetes patients were entered this study, accounting for54%of the total population.Diabetic patients were more likely to undergo CPB(P=0.037) during CABG as compared to nondiabetics.Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed diabetic patients only had a higher rate of deep sternal wound infection (p=0.002), while sharing almost similar rates among other morbidities and mortality as compared to nondiabetic patients. Conclusions:under the strict glycemic control, with or without diabetes, coronary heart disease patients undergo coronary artery bypass grafting, peri-operative clinical result has no significant statistical difference. Diabetes is not independent risk factors for CABG postoperative morbidity and mortality.
