Evaluation Of The Caries Risk Profile With Removable Partial Denture Prothesis

Removable partial denture (Removable partial denture,RPD)is an effective means of repairing missing tooth,and is widely used and recognized. But the problem of the high risk of caries prevalence after wearing RPD become very noteworthy. This may be related to a variety of factors,such as the friction of the clasp to abutment,the improperly positioned of clasp,poor contact between the artificial teeth and abutments,the type of denture support,the buffering effect of saliva and the number of Streptococcus mutans in it,personal oral hygiene and oral health habits,and so on.Caries was listed as the third largest non-communicable diseases and is a hazard to human health by the World Health Organization,affect our health,and is the most common oral diseases.Despite its high prevalence, many epidemiological studies shown most caries is concentrated only in a part of the human body in the crowd,i.e.more than60%of dental caries only occurs in20%of the human mouth. Caries risk was higher among some people has been widely confirmed,these people was often called high risk caries populations. How to predict those the caries susceptible populations and made targeted interventions to reduce the incidence of dental caries development a hot research at home and abroad.Objective:The study was set up to explore a potential association between a person’s caries risk profile and cariogenic factors and wearing the removable partial denture,hope to guide clinical monitoring and oral hygiene education to caries-risk populations targeted,in order to try to reduce their cariesplace.Methods:Data was obtained from180patients treated with RPDs completed two weeks after,by oral examination、oral health questionnaire and caries activity assay, and we choose the best correlation Dentocult SM and the best feasibility Dentobuff Strip to do the caries activity asssay.Thenvarious caries risk and caries risk factors was analyzed by using a computer-based program(Cariogram).According to the report,all patients were divided into the higher caries risk group and the lower caries risk group.Statistical analysis was carried out. At last inform patients of the analysis results and give the reasonable proposal.Results:There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups about the secretion rate and buffer capacity,but the group with more mutans streptococci counts,high plaque index and high-carbonhydrate diets are significantly different(p<0.05);the caries average was much more in high risk group.Conclusion:Cariogram software system is simple, high accuracy,and it can be used for caries risk prediction in clinical practice for patients with dental caries and as work guidance; For patients with RPD repaired, you can take advantage of the experimental method for caries caries risk assessment and targeted prevention to reduce the harm caused of caries for patients with RPD.
