| Objective:Periodontitis is one of the common oral diseases, with the characteristics of periodontal progressive destruction. More and more evidences indicate that related cytokines play an important role in the development process of it. The IL-1family are important immune regulating factors, and their wide range of biological effects in the inflammation and the immune response process received more and more attentions. IL-37(i.e. IL-1F7) is a new member of the IL-1family, it is a kind of anti-inflammatory factor. To study if this cytokine plays a role in the development of periodontitis, we have carried out the present study through collecting gingival crevicular fluid, detecting and analysing the IL-37level in the gingival crevicular fluid of the healthy people and patients with chronic periodontitis before and after the periodontal initial therapy. The change and significance of IL-37in the development of chronic periodontitis was preliminarily explored, and its value as references for the clinical diagnosis and therapy of chronic periodontitis was provided.Methods:10cases of healthy people were selected as healthy controls, and10cases of chronic periodontitis patients were selected as the experimental group. One of the first upper molar in all the participants was chosen as the experiment object with median site. The experimental group was divided into the group before therapy and the group after therapy after the periodontal initial therapy. Gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), attachment loss (AL) of each tested tooth was observed and recorded. The gingival crevicular fluid of all the tested teeth was collected with the filter paper strip method. IL-37content in the gingival crevicular fluid was tested with the ELISA, and the IL-37level in the gingival crevicular fluid was compared and analysed between the healthy control group and the group before therapy, the group before therapy and the group after therapy, and the correlation test of each clinical index was taken.Results:1. The IL-37level in the gingival crevicular fluid in patients with the chronic periodontitis before therapy was lower than it in healthy people, and the difference has statistical significance (P<0.05); the IL-37level in the gingival crevicular fluid in patients with the chronic periodontitis before therapy was lower than it in patients with the chronic periodontitis after therapy, and the difference has statistical significance (P<0.05).2.There were significant differences in the clinical indicators GI, PD and AL between the healthy control group and the experimental group before therapy, and between before therapy and after therapy (P<0.05) in the experimental group.3.The level of IL-37in gingival the crevicular fluid has no correlation with GI(P>0.05), but has negative correlation with PD and AL (P<0.05).Conclusion:The gingival crevicular fluid in patients with chronic periodontitis contains IL-37, its content was significantly lower than that in healthy people, and it can be increased obviously after the periodontal initial therapy. IL-37may play a role in the initiation and progress of the periodontitis, which can reflect the periodontal health by the raise of its level. So the level of IL-37can be used as the objective indicator reflecting the periodontal status, and to detect its level plays a supplementary role in the diagnosis and prognosis of periodontal diseases. |
