Social Work Practice On Children With Conenital Cardiovascular Disease

The development of social work in China has gone through restoration andreconstruction in the past thirty years since China’s reform and opening-up. Medicalsocial work as a brunch of social work stands out during this period. The specializedperspective and its irreplaceable role make medical social work more and moreimportant. The group of children who have congenital cardiovascular disease can be avery special part of disadvantaged children. These children, especially their seriousillness relief and postoperative rehabilitation have been paid crucial concern by healthcare workers. Then some questions come to me, for instance, in what way canchildren with congenital heart disease get rid of pain at the same time of givingtreatment? How can we help them to build confidence in life and establish goodrelationship with peers? Can the families of children with congenital cardiovasculardisease getting more coping capacity? According to these questions, I would like to discuss the children’s rehabilitation of serious illness, the children with congenitalcardiovascular disease.In this paper, I mainly use qualitative research methods together with interventionaltherapy of group work in order to learn the rehabilitation of children with congenitalcardiovascular disease in the perspective of social work. My prophase investigationand initial assessment shows that the children with congenital cardiovascular diseasealways have similar needs of rehabilitation of a serious illness services. Though thesechildren come from different provinces and have different background, but nearly allof them have a feeling of loneliness and inferiority, they want to get sense ofbelongingness and they have strong willingness to be accepted by peers and society.Besides, illness children’s families are under great pressure both on the spiritual andmaterial, which also need support from society、schools and government, for example,emotional support, technical support, material support, convenient environment,policies etc. Take these into consideration, I think their social work mainlyconcentrate on superiority theory and empowerment theory. That means they helppatients in a very professional way and highlight their advantages at the same time, sothat the patients can rebuild confidence and gain internal capabilities for rehabilitation and their consciousness of equality can be improved, in this way, they can establishnormal social relationship with peers，their families can also get supported.In this paper, I mainly use to build my research framework, while reveal thespecific process and method on how social work practice intervence the rehabilitationof ill children in practice. Based on the requirements of research, I divided the processof social work practice into five parts as follows: preparations and formation ofgroups, assessment of problems, drawing up plan of group activities, evaluation ofeffect and conclusion. The first part makes up by selecting members, entering into acontract of employment and forming a group three links, which emphasizes todescribe the formation of the contract within the group based on trust. The second partincludes the principle of assessment, the methods of assessment and a clear goal ofgroup working. The third part includes the principle and details of planning making.The fourth part concerns how social work practice influences the rehabilitation ofchildren with congenital cardiovascular disease, especially showing some theories ofgroup working and describing the supports from mutual aid network. To summarize,the last part includes conclusions of evolutions and conclusions group working, alsomake a further discuss about how to make an appropriate ending of group working. During this period of concerning this newly point of social, I make a furtherthinking. What kind of people can make medical social work and social work betterfit the society? We can not deny the special roles that policies and professionaleducation played, but beneath these objective conditions, students major in socialwork should be responsible for social work and devote themselves to the furtherdevelopment of social work.
