Chemical Constituents And Antibacterial Activity Of Radix Onosmatis

Radix Onosmatis is a herbaceous plant maily growing in southern and eastern Tibet.lt is collected by <<China Health ministry pharmaceutical standards>>Tibetan patent (The first book)WS3-BC-0132-95.Its roots have been commonly used in traditional Tibetan medicines for Lung disease,much blood disease etc,making up of38drugs preparations.But now the research of Radix Onosmatis is fewer than Arnebia Root and Radices Macrotomiae,so this paper study on chemical constituents and antibacterial activity of Radix Onosmatis.In order to give the supports to the exploitation of this medicine in-deepth.The petroleum ether extract and ethyl acetate extract were isolated and purified used Silica Gel, Sephadex LH-20column chromatography,and their structures were identified by spectroscopic analysis.There are ten compounds were isolated from Radix Onosmatis. Nine of Them are identified as (1)β-sitosterol,(2)Shikonin,(3)Oleanolic acid,(4)Benzoic acid,(5)Ferulic acid,(6)Daucosterol,(7)Dampherol,(8)Quercetin-3-O-a-L-rhamnoside,(9)Caffeicacid.All com-pounds were first isolated from the Radix Onosmatis.The antibacterial activities of the extraet and the7compounds to Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillussubtilis were detected by K-B method and determine the MIC.Study shows that the extraet showed better antibacterial activities to G-and G+bacteria than bacillus. The material of antibacterial activity mainly are the ester soluble constituents.The compound2has best antibacterial activities,show that the Radix Onosmatis has the same pharmacological effects with the Arnebia Root.The compound7and8are flavonoids compounds,show that they were the material base of antibacterial activity,also as one of the standards of quality control of Radix Onosmatis.This study provides theoretical basis of material base and pharmacological activities for the Radix Onosmatis.
