Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease, its major symptom ischronic inflammation of synovial tissue, destruction of cartilage and bone in thejoints. The incidence of RA in the world is about0.5%, but until to the present, thereis no effective drug and method to therapy RA. So it has positive significance totherapy RA by exploiting new drugs.Alangium Chinese (Lour.) Harms is a traditional chinese medicine, it has theeffects of expelling wind&removing damness, relax and activate the tendons anddisperse blood stasis&relieving pain, it apply in curing RA in folk and have a curativeeffect in clinical, but it have tocxity. Research shows that fibrous roots and root barkof Alangium Chinese (Lour.) Harms contain alkaloids and glucoside compounds, inwhich alkaloids is the main reason to bring about tocxity. This paper is to extract andseparate alkaloids and no-alkaloids to investigate the effects of them in adjuvantarthritis (AA) rats, to curing RA in drug action and screen components of AlangiumChinese (Lour.) Harms in RA. The results as follows:(1) Extracts of Alangium Chinese (Lour.) Harms (EA) can restrained ear swelling,enhanced threshoid of pain and cutted down writhing number of mice which werebrought out by hot plate, acetic acid and xylene compared with the normal group. Weconclude that EA have the effect in anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic.(2) EA and the total alkaloids of Alangium Chinese (Lour.) Harms (TA) can restrainarthrocele and cut down the arthritis index (AI) of AA rats. From the picture ofpathology, we can see that in EA and TA group, synovial hyperplasia evidentlyinhibited and cell proliferation of synovial fibroblasts relieve. We can concluse the EA,the TA have curative effect in AA rats.(3) In order to investigate the toxicity of extracts of alangium chinese (lour.) harmsin rats, the rats are irrigoscopied everyday until the eighth day and killed. The contentof alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), total bilirubin(TBIL), alkaline phosphatase(ALP) were detected in serum and content ofmalondialchehyche (MDA), superoxide dismutase(SOD) in the liver tissue of rats alsobe detected. The liver of rats are reciped to observe the change of histomorphology byHE staining after14days. Result:The content of ALT and AST significantly rise, thecontent of TBIL, ALP rise, but no significant difference in TA group. The content of SOD is reduced and MDA is rised in the EA groups and the TA group, but nosignificant difference; in EA group, kinds of biochemical indicator have no abnormity.From the result of pathology, we can see that after administering TA, there haveedema and congestion; in EA group there have mild edema.
