Objective: To investigate the impact of Oral Health-related quality of life in the Hanchildren aged11-14with the different degrees of malocclusion. In order to provide a basisfor clincal treatment and to reduce the impact of malocclusion in the early childhood.Methods: One hundred eighty11-to14-year-old children without history of previous orcurrent treatment were selected from the Department of Orthodontics in the First AffiliatedHospital of Xinjiang Medical University. One hundred ninety-eight11-to14-year-oldchildren with normal occlusion were selected from the secondary school in Urumqi andthe the Xinjiang Medical University Preparatory School and to determine the individualnormal though oral examination. The measures included the Chinese version of the ChildPerceptions Questionnaire (CPQ11-14) and the index of orthodontic treatment need dentalhealth component(IOTN-DHC) to survey their oral health quality of life and to calculatethe related influence factors of oral quality of life. Results:(1) To compare the CPQ11-14scores between the normal groups and the varying degrees of malocclusion groups: theCPQ11-14scores between the normal groups and the varying degrees of malocclusiongroups were statistically significant differences (P<0.001). In four dimensions: oralsymptoms, emotional and social aspects of score differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Oral function scores were no significant differences (P>0.05).(2) compare theboys’ CPQ11-14scores between the normal groups and the varying degrees ofmalocclusion groups: there was no statistically significant differences in oral symptoms,oral function, emotional and social aspects of the boys’ CPQ scores(P>0.05).(3) comparethe girls’ CPQ11-14scores between the normal groups and the varying degrees of malocclusion groups: there were statistically significant differences in the oral symptoms,oral function, emotional and social aspects of the girls’ CPQ scores (P<0.05).(4) tocompare the boys’ and girls’ CPQ scores in different degrees of malocclusion:malocclusion group DHC=2and DHC=3, boys’ and girls’ in the total score, the CPQ scoredifference statistically significance (P<0.05). In four dimensions, the oral function,emotional and social aspects of the CPQ score differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Oral symptoms of CPQ scores showed no significant difference (P>0.05). In themalocclusion DHC>3group, boys’ and girls’ on the total score and four dimensions, theCPQ score differences were no statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion:(1) Thisstudy indicates that malocclusion affects child’s quality of life from oral symptomsemotional and social aspects.(2) Malocclusion affects girls’ quality of life higher thanboys’.(3) With the malocclusion severity, the gender differences gradually decreased.
