Mei Guoqiang, one of National Instructors of Academic Experience Inherit of old Chinese Medicine Experts, has engaged in teaching, clinic and research work on "Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases " more than40years and accumulated rich clinical experiences. He is expert in treating cardiovascular respiratory and digestive diseases, and has unique opinions in diagnosing and treating of seasonal and stubborn diseases as well, forming his own academic thoughts. The study sums up the academic thoughts and clinical experiences of Professor Mei Guoqiang treating respiratory diseases by collecting and analyzing his clinical cases and reading and sorting out the dissertations and works relatively.1Academic thought of respiratory diseases1.1Use syndrome differentiation of six-meridian to diagnose and treat respiratory diseasesProfessor Mei makes compositive analysis on diseases based on the theory of Taiyang, Shaoyang, Yangming, Taiyin and Shaoyin of "Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases ",differentiates respiratory diseases especially using syndrome differentiation of six-meridian and writes out the prescription according to the theory.1.2Treating respiratory diseases by syndrome differentiation of eight principlesThe eight principles consist of Yin, yang, the inner, the outer, Coldness, Heatness, the excess type and the deficient type. Pathogen can’t cause diseases if the vital Qi is suff ient. Pathogen invades into the body where vital Qi must be deficient. Excess type results from the rampancy of the invading pathogen, whereas the grave loss of vital Qi brings on deficiency one. The patients with respiratory disease often have the excess type accompanied by deficiency or have the deficiency type accompanied by excess type. The acute respiratory diseases are often the type of Yang, the chronic diseases are often the type of Yin and the deficiency. The heat symptoms result from the excess of Yang and the cold symptoms from the excess of Yin. The deficiency of Yin brings about the heat symptoms of deficiency, and the deficiency of Yang about the cold ones. The patients of respiratory disease with the outer type often have a fever, chills, nasal congestion, headache, pains in the joints and muscle, cough and expectoration. They are often suffered from cold pathogen and wind pathogen. If the patients don’ t have the symptoms above, there symptoms are always the inner type.1.3Treating respiratory diseases by the relationship between Zang-organ and Fu-organZang-organ and Fu-organ can interact, so the respiratory diseases can influence other organs, and vice versa. When treating respiratory diseases cl inically, we should always identify if there exists diseases of other organs. For example, chronic bronchial asthma accompanied by deficiency of yang of the heart and kidney syndrome are chiefly treated by Zhen Wu Decoction and Xiao Qing Long Decoction. 1.4Treating respiratory diseases from syndrome differentiating of Qi, blood and body fluidProfessor Mei considers that disorders of Qi, blood and body fluid can easily result in interties of phlegm and blood stagnation. It can manifest oppressed pain or pricking pain in the chest, dark tongue, white or yellow greasy coating and deep rolling pulse clinically. For instance, we may prescribe Xiao Xian Xiong Decoction, together with herbs invigorating the circulation of blood, for the patients with yellow or green sputum, yellow greasy coating and dark tongue.2Experiences of respiratory diseasesProfessor Mei thinks diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases should be given concrete syndrome differentiation in line with its pathogen and pathogenesis. For example we should attach importance to removing of exogenous diseases clinically. If exogenous diseases is not removed, removing exogenous diseases must be taken the first; if so, we can make appropriate rule based on the relative excess and deficiency of the lung, such as the rule of removing heat or cold, tonifying Kidney and Spleen, apophlegmating, antitussing, nourishing yin, and so on. For example, if the cough and asthma is caused by cold and wind pathogen, Professor Mei often uses Mahuang Decoction to treat, together with Jiegeng, Beimu, Ziwang, Kuandonghua. Professor Mei of ten makes use of Guizhi plus Houpu and Xingren Decoction to treat cough and asthma caused by cold pathogen when the patient is weak and easy to perspirate, acquiring satisfactory curative effect. Professor Mei often prescribes Xiao Xian Xiong Decoction and Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction to treat the cough caused by heat pathogen. If there are wind and cold outer and cold sputum inner, professor Mei often uses Xiao Qing Long Decoction and She Gan Ma Huang Decoction to treat. Professor Mei often uses Ling Gui Zhu Gan Decoction to treat the patient many cold sputum in the Lung. Professor Mei often takes Chai Hu Xian Xiong Decoction to cure Shao Yang disease accompanied by respiratory disease, together with Yuxingcao, Baijiangcao, Ziwang, Donghua. In addition, he always adopts Chai Hu Wen Dan Decoction to remedy Shao Yang disease and dampness-heat syndrome.Professor Mei often employs Sha Shen Mai Dong Decoction to nourish the Yin of the Lung when the Yin of the Lung is deficient. He uses Shen Ling Bai Zhu Decoction to cure dyspepsia and diarrhea for the patient with cough and asthma. The chronic rhinitis is often cured with Ma Huang Fu Zi Xi Xin Decoction, together with Yuxingcao, Baijiangcao, Huangqin, Baizhi, Cang’er zi, Xinyihua. Professor Mei of ten uses Bihu, Wugong, Baihuasheshecao, Baiying, Shishangbai in order to restrain Lung cancer cell to grow. |
