Objectives To describe the status quo of professional attitude and patient safety culture cognition of clinical nurses in Yanbian area and the differences of professional attitude and patient safety culture cognition in the general population characteristics, and to explore the relationship between professional attitude and patient safety culture cognition of clinical nurses.Methods Non-experimental, correlation study was used in this study. Clinical nurses were randomly selected from two2A-level general hospitals and one3A-level general hospital in Yanbian area of Jilin Province from June to July of2011. A total of480questionnaires were issued, including426usable questionnaires, and effective recovery rate was93.2%. Three measurement instruments examining general demographic characteristics, professional self-concept and patient safety climate in healthcare organizations were used in this study. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS17.0. Statistical software and the methods were used in this study including descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression.Results1. The status quo of professional attitude, and patient safety culture cognition of clinical nurses(1) The total score of clinical nurses’professional attitude was (88.98±10.42), and the average score of five dimensions from high to low was:skills, flexibility, communication, leadership, and satisfaction. The total score and average score of five dimensions of clinical nurses’professional attitude were higher than the medium level.(2) The total score of clinical nurses’patient safety culture cognition was (138.65±14.30), and the average score of eight dimensions from high to low was: team atmosphere, superior value, psychological safety, communication cooperation, fear of humiliation, unsafe actions, safety resource, and active report. The total score of clinical nurses’safety culture cognition was higher than the medium level; while only the average score of active report was slightly lower than the medium level in eight dimensions.2.One-way ANOVA of professional attitude, and patient safety culture cognition of clinical nurses (1) Clinical nurses’professional attitude had differences on nurses’general demographic characteristics, including age, working year, professional title, position, work department, and hospital level, whether or not teaching students.(2) Clinical nurses’patient safety culture cognition had differences on nurses’general demographic characteristics, including age, working year, marital status, education background, professional title, employment type, working department, and hospital level.3. The relationship between professional attitude and patient safety culture cognitive of clinical nurseThe relationship between professional attitude and patient safety culture cognitive of clinical nurse was significantly positive correlation.4. The influence factors of patient safety culture cognition of clinical nursesHierarchical regression analysis showed while introducing clinical nurses’ professional attitude after controlling demographic variables, the fitting model can explain21.3%of the total variance of clinical nurses’patient safety culture cognition. The standardized regression coefficient of clinical nurses’professional attitude from0.402to0.365.Adjustment coefficient of the fitting model increased0.120(P<0.01).Conclusions1. Clinical nurses’professional attitude was totally positive. Clinical nurses’patient safety culture cognition was higher than the medium level.2. Age, working year, professional title, position, work department, and hospital level, whether or not teaching students were relevant to clinical nurses’professional attitude. Age, working year, marital status, education background, professional title, employment type, working department, and hospital level were relevant to clinical nurses’patient safety culture cognition.3.The relationship between professional attitude and patient safety culture cognitive of clinical nurse was significantly positive correlation.4. Clinical nurses’professional attitude had influence and played a positive role on clinical nurses’patient safety culture cognition.
