Study On The Patient Safety Culture Assessment About Nurses In Hospital

Objective:Safety culture is an aggregation of values,attitudes,and mode of behavior toward safety issues.Safety culture influences the determinants of safety performance,and then influences the safety performance.Most researchers study the dimensionality of safety culture through surveying people's attitudes and values.Now the study is shortage in China, The purpose of this study is to confirm the structure of patient safety culture assessment,to confirm the reliability and validity of the questionnaire,providing objective and precise evidence for clinic nursing supervision to improve patient safety.Methods:According to the foreign experiences of improving patient safety and effect evaluation,By literature analyzing and interview,the primary scale is developed.By expert consuling,pilot testing and exploratory factor analyses,the scale is finished.The sample of 211 nurses from 2 general hospital in shanghai city,statistics by SPSS(13.0),the reliability and validity of the scale is also tested,Statistic methods such as analysis of variance are adopted to analyze the data.Results:(1)Patient Safety Culture Assessing Scale about Clinical Nurse is developed, the primary is Safety Attitudes Questionnaire.Safety Attitudes Questionnaire,with good reliability and validity,composed of 5 factors(Teamwork Climate,Job Satisfaction,Stress Recognition,Safety Climate,Perceptions of Management) and 24 items.Each time is scored by Likerts Scales.(2) The inventory had satisfying reliability including good inter-item consistency, test-retest reliability.Cronbach'αcoefficient for each dimension was 0.7234～0.8523, while for the overall scale it was 0.8861.the test-retest Pearson correlation coefficient for the 5 dimensions and the overall scale was 0.701～0.833,0.895.The consistency of this instrument is good.All items are measure one concept:patient safety culture.Internal relations between scales for each dimension and the overall scale were good,and the structure was excellent,with r=0.381～0.854(p＜0.01).Analysis of factors in each dimension was also good;The cumulative interpretrate of them is 59.879%.after analysis for significance,an eigen value greater than 1 was established as the standard for selection.Loading for each factor ranged from 0.529 to 0.821,and for each item was greater than 0.40,indicating that the structure of the scale was similar to the theory construction.(3) The general level of the Patient Safety Culture Assessing Scale about Clinical Nurse belongs to among middle-level,5 factors from high to low:Safety Climate, Teamwork Climate,Job Satisfaction,Perceptions of Management,Stress Recognition,only Stress Recognition belowing middle-level shows that the nurse with great stress may affect patient safety.General,nurses have positive attitudes on the recognition\attitudes\actions of patient safety.(4) There are differences among the variables such as age,education,job time, section,hospital level on the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire.Conclusions:The development of Patient Safety Culture Assessing Scale about Clinical Nurse can provide assistance for the nurse administrator to measure and improve patient safety.
