Modern Psychiatry Institutionalization Process In China(1891-1979)

Psychiatry is a branch of clinical medicine. It is based on a variety of mental illness etiology, pathogenesis, clinical disease as the law of development of the disease, as well as treatment and prevention for the purpose of a science; due to mental illness characteristics and complexity, historical background and restrictions on the level of technological development, their level of development still lags behind other medical disciplines.The development of modern Western psychiatry more than one hundred years of history in the Western Learning at the historical background, the history of modern psychiatry, but also over a hundred years, the collation of research of historical documents is not sufficient. Therefore, summarized modern psychiatry in the process of China’s establishment, to further deepen the understanding of psychiatry course of development of the more important significance. More systematic combing by psychiatry in our country nearly a hundred years (1891-1979) the development process of the review, the following five major areas:First, mental health institutions; the running of the mental health of medical work and personnel training; psychiatry’s scientific research and academic exchanges; four contribute to the character; five is the development of Hong Kong and Taiwan.Understanding of human mental phenomena often influence and determine the attitude of mental illness, viewpoints, and treatment methods and means. Development process reflects a combination of psychiatric understanding of mental illness and its laws, and also reflects the correct and reverse bias of mental illness, discrimination in the process of progress. Recorded in different periods of the spirit of the nation’s medical books and literature, the views of the many symptoms of mental illness and its diagnosis and treatment, and the people of these phenomena.Underdeveloped in the level of technological and cultural development during the long history of mental illness caused by evil and the Turn of the Screw with mental illness is often seen as the devil possessed, in the history. culture and social environment, subjected to unfair treatmentand treatment, and even mockery, and abuse.By combing interpretation of the historical development of psychiatry in China between1891and1979and the existing text, this study seeks to show of modern psychiatry in the above five aspects of the achievements and shortcomings; contribute to the characters andpsychiatric development of China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan, compared with a more detailed discussion of the historical literature of the past. Inductive capacity limit caught in the process of writing this article, the collection and sorting of literature, there are many inadequacies, to be be improved by future research work.
