| Sexology, consisting of sexual medicine, sexual psychology and sexualsociology, is a comprehensive science on study of human sexual problems and anintegrated, general, multi-discipline theoretical system closely related to anatomy, physiology, pathology, psychology, sociology, politics, ethics, philosophy, anthropology, the humanities, aesthetics and pedagogy which fully embodies itscharacteristics of natural biology, social psychology and cultural inheritance. In recent years, medical students’ sexual concept and sexual behaviors changes greatlywith the advance of maturity age,the delay of first marriage age,the extension ofsexual maturity stage under the influence of social, economic, and ultural factors, which increasingly highlights the problems and education demand of their sexual andreproductive health. To medical undergraduates, university period is a period bearingdevelopment imbalance between mentality and psychology as well as the critical stagefor building their worldview, values and behavior model. There are many problemsabout sex knowledge, attitude and behavior among medical students, mainly reflectedin:(1)their poor cognition of sexual scientific knowledge;(2) their increasinglyopening sexual concept and fragile sexual morality;(3)their initial age of sexualbehavior is lower and most of sexually active medical students don,t take effective orcontinuous contraceptive measures, thus leading to higher rates of accidentalpregnancy and even unsafe sex. Most of sexually active medical students lack of the correct knowledge of seriousconsequences caused by undesired pregnancy, unsafe abortion, reproductive tract infection,STD/AIDS and so on due to the absence of sex related knowledge andinformation. They don’t have the ability of consultation, communication, refusing andself-protection during unprotected sex behaviors or take effective or continuouscontraceptive measures,so that they faced higher risks of unwanted pregnancies, reproductive tract infection, abortion, sexual violence,STD/AIDS,which seriouslyinfluence medical students’ physical and mental health.Medical students are future doctors, undertaking the important responsibility ofspreading health and saving lives. For guaranteeing medical students’ physical andmental health, satisfying patients’ sexual and reproductive health, education againstAIDS discrimination and occupational protection of STD/AIDS, focus on thepopularization of the sexual scientific knowledge is widely needed. The popularization education of sexual scientific knowledge to medical studentscarried out by medical universities falls behind the change of medical stutdents’ sexualattitude and behavior, and their need for sex education. Traditional sex education cannot meet the medical students, demand of sexual and reproductive health. They hope toacquire the knowledge and skills of reproductive health, sexual health, contraception, sexually transmitted disease (STD),acquired immure deficiency syndrome (AIDS) andso on trough the regular way. How to implement popularization education of the sexualscientific knowledge, enhance the medical students, understanding of sexualscientific knowledge, correct their wrong sexual morality, improve their unhealthysexual related behavior, prevent or reduce sexual risk behavior,is an important issue toeducation workers. Not only should higher medical education make medical students become medicaltalents with exquisite specialized technology, excellent business level and loving and saving ethics, help them set up right attitude toward STD/AIDS patients, but also itshould train them into main force of popularization of the sexual scientific knowledge,to learn the ability and skills of communicating with the patient about sex andreproductive health problem, and to complete the occupational protection withSTD/AIDS. Therefore,a change in educators’ notion and strengthening of teachersprocession construct will meet the demand to carry our scientific and reasonableeducation activities based on law of somatopsychic development, which ought to playthe leading role in medical students’ popularization education of sexual scientificknowledge. |
