ObjectiveTo study the risk factors of tuberculosis among students in primary and middle schools and lay a basis for its prevention and control in schools.MethodsA case-control study was carried out in the primary and middle schools students, with104cases and104controls. Date were analyzed with multinomial logistic regression with SPSS16.0software. Odd Ratios (ORs) were calculated for relevant factors. TB patients in the primary and middle schools students from information system for tuberculosis management in2008-2009were analyzed.ResultsIn risk factors study, single-varible analysis showed that weight, body mass index, family economic income, learning intensity, strength of cultural and sports activities, schooling of mother, history of exposure to tuberculosis and so on had significant effects on tuberculosis (P<0.05or0.01). Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that, the risk factors were body mass index (OR=8.406, P<0.01), family economic income (OR=5.781, P<0.01), learning intensity (OR=3.083, P<0.05), history of exposure to tuberculosis (OR=13.698, P<0.05) and so on. Strength of cultural and sports activities, schooling of mother, and so on could play the roles in the prevention of tuberculosis. In2008-2009, there are112cases of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in students, accounting for2.46%in all TB patients in the same period. The student TB patients discovered from healthy examination account for1.9%, from active treatment account for60.6%and from referral account for37.5%. The main clinical symptoms are cough and sputum. The proportion of theatment delay is52.88%and the proportion of discovery delay is45.19%. The cute rate of smear-positive TB patients is94.34%.ConclusionThe risk factors of tuberculosis among students in primary and middle schools were complex. At the situation of non-break out, endogenetic episode pattern would be the main cause among students in primary and middle schools. Poor resistance, poor social economic status and environment of family, history of exposure to tuberculosis and so on were the risk factors of tuberculosis. Strength of cultural and sports activities and schooling of mother could play the roles in the prevention of tuberculosis. The epidemic of tuberculosis in primary and middle schools can not be ignored. The senior high school students are more likely to have tuberculosis. The theatment delay and the discovery delay are serious. We should further strengthen the prevention and cure of school tuberculosis.
