Objective:To investigate the pathogenesis, clinical characteristics and treatment of painless subacute thyroiditis and comparison with other thyroid disease. Methods:On the basis of relevant literatures, the clinical data of12patients with PST in our hospital from January2010to January2012were analyzed and reviewed retrospectively which were compared with those of Graves disease and subacute thyroiditis. Results:In the PST group, conspicuous distinction was found in TT3,TT4,FT4,FT4against that of Graves disease(P<0.01,P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.01); No conspicuous distinction was found in TT3、TT4、FT4、FT4against that of SAT(P>0.05);The99mTc-pertechnetate thyroid uptake rate of PST was obviously different from that of Graves disease(p<0.01);The erythrocyte sedimentation rate of PST was obviously different from that of SAT(p<0.01);In the PST group, TT3/TT4was obviously different from that of Graves disease(P<0.01);Thyroid ultrasonography with color Doppler showed no increased blood flow in all the12patients;3patients had positive TGAb while4patients had positive TPOAb out of the12patients;2of the12patients were treated with B-adrenergic block agents while the rest remained untreated. Conclusions:PST patients have complicated clinical manifestations which may lead to misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. For those who have symptoms of thyrotoxicosis, sufficient examination is necessary for correct diagnosis so as to avoid inappropriate treatment.
