Objective: To investigate the cadres′mental health level and quality oflife states in Wenchuan Earthquake Disaster Area 3 years after the earthquake,so as to provide references to formulate appropriate strategies andintervention measures. Methods: Sampling 1515 cadres in Party and Government organs andpublic institutions (public officer) from the Sichuan earthquake disaster byusing stratified random sampling method. we used cross-sectional survey toinvestigate the society characteristics, mental health level and quality of lifeof the sample by using general questionnaire, Self -Rating Anxiety Scale,Self-Rating Depression Scale, Michigan Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire,Athens Insomnia Scale and World Health Organization Quality of LifeInstrument-Abbreviated version. Chi-square test and rank sum tests were usedto analysis the differences of cadres′mental health and quality of life in thedifferent socio-demographic variables. T test was used to compare quality oflife scores and national General population score. Multiple linear regressionmethod was used to establish two different regression models about fourfields of quality of life (physical, psychological, social relationships, environment), and then compared the adjusted R2value of the models.Result:①The number of SAS <50 was 1175(77.6%).The number ofSAS≥50 was 340(22.4%).The number of SDS <53 was 1060(70.0%).Thenumber of SDS≥53 was 455(30.0%).It was 29% that the cadres′MAST score was beyond 6 points. It was 42.4% that the cadres′AIS score was beyond 6points.②Chi-square analysis showed that widowed, divorced, remarried andunmarried cadres anxiety symptoms detection rate was higher than married.③Chi-square analysis showed that widowed, divorced, remarried and unmarriedcadres symptoms of depression detection rates were higher than marriedcadres in the cadres whose SDS score≥53.A higher rate of depressivesymptoms was detected in the cadres who have low levels of education (P<0.05); Detection rates of the 50-year-old age group was higher than the30-year-old age group after adjusting the inspection levels (P <0.01,).④Therank sum test showed that the detection rate of alcohol dependence of male, married cadres was higher. The detection rate of insomnia symptoms inwidowed, divorced, remarried and unmarried cadres was higher than marriedpersons (P <0.05).⑤The cadres′score [(55.75±10.85) (59.62±12.84)] in thefield of physical and psychological was lower than score[(69.38±14.38)(61.81±11.81)] in the domestic general population. The difference wasstatistically significant. The difference of the total quality of life plus totalhealth status and the general population was not statistically significant[(13.31±3.14) VS (13.38±2.91)], and the field of social relations and the fieldof environment score [(67.70±15.82) (54.41±16.31)] was higher than thegeneral population score [(62.06±12.88)(50.88±13.00)].The difference wasstatistically significant (P<0.01).⑥Multiple linear regression analysis showedthat psychological and behavioral factors can respectively explain13.2%,22.6%,19.4% and 27.8% in the 4 areas of quality of life regressionmodel variations.Conclusion:①Effective psychological assistance for cadre group had apositive role for their mental health after disaster in a timely, but the cadres still suffered from mental health problems three years after the earthquake.Widowed, divorced, remarried, and unmarried cadres had higher detectionrate of anxiety symptoms. Detection rate of depressive symptoms wasespecially higher in the 50-year-old age group and specialist and below thelevel of education of the cadres. Male, married had higher detection rate ofalcohol dependence. It was the necessary long-term mechanism to providemental health services for cadres, and should pay more attention to specialgroups such as widowed, divorced.②The quality of life in the field ofphysical and psychological ratings were lower than the general population. Itwas no difference in the field of overall QOL and overall health statusbetween cadres and norm, and the score in the field of social relations andenvironmental was higher than domestic general population score.③The fourfactors of anxiety, depression, alcohol dependence and insomnia included inthis study could better predict on the quality of life.
