Aim To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of synovial plica syndrome of the medial knee. Methods A total of81patients with medial patellar plica syndrome by arthroscopy were retrospectively analyzed from from October2009to October2011. there were45male and36female in this group, the average age was37years, duration of disease varied from3months to13months, and all plica were excised. The pre and Post operative knee joint functions were assessed with Lysholm knee joint function score. The pathological plica found arthroscopically was regarded as standard reference. Statistics work was done with SPSS13.0statistic1software.Results Mediopatellar plica syndrome had the following clinical symptoms:painful knee and mediopatellar tenderness in all patients; tender bands in58.7%patients; positive test of flexion or extension with internal femoral condyle pressed in65.3%patients; positive Mcmarrys sign in45.3%patients among96cases medial plica Syndrome. There were75cases cought be Followed up. Mean follow up time was13months (range from2to26months). The score of Lysholm was raised from (43.00+6.83) to (84.00±8.21), and no case had recrudesced. Conclusion The detailed physical examination is useful for diagnosis. The clinical diagnostic standard of mediopatellar plica syndrome is that the first above mentioned clinical symptom plus one of other three symptoms could suggest the diagnosis, but the arthroscopy is still the best diagnostic method, excision of plica is confirmed to be a prophylactic procedure to the cartilage damage.
