Background and pourpose:Synovial plicae are known to be embryological remnants of synovial tissue or reactions of the synovium to another disorder. There are four predominant plicae in the knee:infrapatellar plicae (ligamentum mucosum),suprapatellar plicae, medial plicae and lateral plicae. The plicae can cause clinical symptom, when there is inflammation and often fibrosis of the plica, which becomes inflexible. The medial patellar plicae is the one that is most frequently symptomatic. Medial plica syndrome is a combination of clinical symptoms and physical findings associated with a pathologic plicaThe clinical features of symptomatic medial patellar plica(MPP)syndrome are nonspecific, and the diagnosis has been troublesome for orthopaedic surgeons. So diagnosing of medial plica syndrome is difficult. And many times we find the MPP in arthroscope operation. CT is a useful way in diagnosing MPP syndrome, but the medial plicae were said to be easily missed through it.Study showed that for the detection of pathological medial plicae, noninvasive MRI was more efficient than invasive arthrography and at least equally efficient as invasive CT arthrography. When diagnosing the Mpp syndrome in clinic we should konw the case history, symptom, and get imaging support. At last we make a definite diagnosis of the MPP syndrome through arthroscopy.Objective:1.Our goal was to evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI in medial plica syndrome.2.The purpose of this study was to determine if there are magnetic resonance(MRI) characteristics of the medial plica that correlate with the likelihood of pathologic(al) mediopatellar plica.Methods:1.Seventy knee MR examinations from patients who underwent subsequent knee arthroscopy were evaluated retrospectively for the presence of a medial plica.2.The plicae were then characterized by relative width, thickness, relation to the trochlear cartilage, associated cartilage changes, and effusion.3.The arthroscopy reports from each knee were reviewed for the presence, description, and resection of medial plicae.4.statistical analysisâ‘ .to evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI in medial plica.â‘¡.Statistical analysising the Correlation between the Magnetic Resonance Characteristics of Medial Plica and the pathologic(al)mediopatellar plica.Results:1.In the diagnosis of medial plica, sensitivity and specificity were 71 and 83%on axial view T1-weighted images.2.MRI characteristics were significantly predictive of the pathologic MPP.Degeneration of cartilage adjacent to MPP had a P value of 0.001,plica width had a P value of 0.001,and plica thickness had a P value of 0.001. |
