Objective To evaluate the location accuracy of the computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture(CAD/CAM)implant template based on CT data for dental theimplants placement. Methods Based on the maxillary CT data from 16patients with 20 missing molars, the CAD/CAM implant templates were designed and fabricated. Totally, 20 implants were placed in the maxillary posterior region under the guidance of CAD/CAM implant templates. The CT data were regained after the dental implant placement. All the pre- and post-operative CT were registered by the point to point method, and the deviation between actual and virtual implants was measured to assess the location accuracy of the CAD/CAM templates. Results With the aid of CAD/CAM implant template, the average deviations of the position at the tail of the implant, at the tip of the implant and the projected deviation of angle were(1.03±0.06)mm,(1.19±0.02)mm, and0.73°±0.64°respectively, and the deviations of the position at the bucco-palatal, disto-mesial, vertical direction were(0.53±0.04)mm(,0.42±0.03)mm(,0.30±0.04)mm . From the statistics test result we know that there is no differences between the deviation value of bucco-palatal and vertical direction which at the tip of the implant, but the deviation value of the disto-mesial is more obvious than others, and it has statistical significance. And there is no differences between the deviation value of bucco-palatal, disto-mesial, vertical direction which at the tip of implant respectively. Conclusion The higher location accuracy could be obtained under the guidance of CAD/CAM implant templates for dental implant placement. Relatively, implant deviation of angle after implanting was effected by implant template obviously, and in three-dismensional the deviation at the disto-mesial direction of implate have the more influence to the whole deviation which at the tip of the implant.
