With the development of smart grid, the demands for self-healing technology haveincreased. In order to avoid large-scale power system black out and minimize the influence ofextreme weather, the quick clearing of fault is necessary. Hence, accurate fault location isgetting more and more important.Transfer characteristic of the traveling wave has been analyzed in this paper. And then, the factors influencing traveling wave fault location are introduced and the effective detectionmethod for traveling wave is proposed. The thesis starts with the physical significance oftraveling wave transmission. The arrival time of the traveling wave is recorded by utilizingthe collected data. Based on the linear relation between the arrival time and thetransmission distance, the scheme revising the arrival time by using least square method isproposed. The difference between the arrival times of all the transformer substation and thecorrection time is proportional to the shortest transmission distance. And based on thecorrection time, the fusion of respective arrival time information and accurate location arerealized. According to the topological structure of transmission line, the double foldlinear regression distance measurement is realized. The engineering problem is transformed toa mathematical problem. The fault location is achieved by calculating the intersection ofcoordinate axis on the line, and its slope stands for the wave velocity.Simulation results demonstrate the practicality and efficiency of the proposed method. The accuracy and the reliability of fault location can be improved. Finally, a whole set oftraveling wave location system is provided in the paper. The accurate fault location inpower transmission network is expexted to be achieved.
