With long transport periods and harsh environment, accidents of shipborne hazardous goods container are more likely to happen. Due to the sealing, the shortage of technical personnel and professional equipments, the accidents are hard to be detected and generally cause heavy loss. Therefore shipborne hazardous goods container safety monitoring is of great significance. Currently, the container monitoring system for road/rail transport are mainly based on RFID, GPRS, GPS and GIS technology, but its communication mode, monitoring objects and architecture aren’t fit for shipborne monitoring. In recent years, Wireless Sensor Network technology has made rapid progress and attracted the direction in ship automation. With the trait of self-organization, low power consumption and low cost, WSN technology is fit for the shipborne hazardous goods container safety monitoring.From the actual demands of container monitoring, this paper designs a monitoring system for shipborne hazardous goods container which is based on WSN technology. The system includes the WSN nodes, sensor module and the monitoring center data management software.First of all, the hardware of coordinator, router and monitoring node are designed based on JN5148module. In order to cope with the numerous frequent replacement of monitoring targets, the sensor module with the Plug and Play feature are designed, and the monitoring node can identify and read the sensor modules by multiplexing I2C bus.Secondly, on the basis of the JenNet protocol, the software of coordinator node, router and monitoring node are designed. Apart from the common function of format the network and communication, the coordinator’s software includes serial communication and obtaining the monitoring data preserved on router; monitoring node’s software includes id Identify and read the sensor modules; router’s software includes preserving the data and status of the son nodes.Again, Monitoring center data management software which includes auto-configuration of UART, data reception and preservation, system and Early Warning information prompting, data curve and network topology plotting, historical data querying and order transmitting.Finally, three tests of the completed wireless sensor network nodes are carried out, which are concerning with network stability, the measurement accuracy and power consumption.
