Fiber reinforced polymer or plastics (brief name FRP) show the characteristics of high tensile strength ratio, easily construction, and causticity resistance etc.It has been widely used an developed as a new material for the huge need of repairing and strengthening. However, the research of FRP reinforced concrete structures on explosion and shock resistance is in an original quest stage all the same. Recently, architectures destroyed by the shock and explosion and so on take place again and again. It becomes pretty necessary and important to research the impact resistance on FRP reinforced concrete structures. In this paper, we learn the failure characteristics and the dynamic response of CFRP reinforced short concrete columns by means of experiments and finite element analysis to complement the basic capability and influencing factors. There are some research works as follows.1.CFRP reinforced concrete short columns and pure concrete columns with two kinds of different layers of CFRP were tested under three different heights in the longitudinal direction. We surveyed shock force history curve, longitudinal and hoop strain history curve of surveying points upon the surface of specimens, velocity of drop hammer history and final deformation pattems of specimens. A camera was used to record the whole broken process of specimens as well.2.We maked a comparison of characteristics of damage between CFRP reinforced concrete columns and pure concrete columns under the axial impact force. And we discussed the relationship between the average axial strain and the biggest impact force with impact energy .We obtained the average axial strain and shock energy’s relationship. The maximal force of impact and average axial strain can be deduced by a simple equation.3. Numeric modeling was used to the assay by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA which is a kind of dynamic finite element analysis software. We compared the modeling results and test results and we found fine concordance between them. It substantiated the modeling consequence and indicated the test’s deficiencies. At last, also discussed the system energy transition regulations and energy absorption instance of kinds of materials in the shock procedure.
