It is a practical project to improve the service life of rubber products.Synthesisof new types of multi-functional rubber anti-aging agent will play an importanttheoretical and practical part in rubber products and the development of rubberindustry.One novel complex of samarium(Sm) with4010NA was synthesized andcharacterized by IR spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis,X-raydiffraction and thermal analyses.Styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) vulcanizates wereprepared with the rare earth complexes. The antioxidative properties andmechanisms of the rare earth complex in the SBR vulcanizates were investigated andits antioxidative effect was compared with that of antioxidant MB,RD and4010NA.It was found that the Sm(III) complex showed the significant antioxidativeeffect in the SBR vulcanizates. Thermal analyses results showed that the Sm(III)complex can improve the thermal degradation temperature of SBR vulcanizates.Through the ultraviolet aging and ozone aging testes, it was concluded that theSm(III) complex enhanced the ability of SBR vulcanizates to resist ultraviolet andozone aging. Optical microscopy results showed that the Sm(III) complex resistedthe development of cracking on SBR vulcanizates surfaces aging process.Still theSm(III) complex reduced the Akron abrasion volume of SBR vulcanizates andslightly improved the fatigue life of SBR vulcanizates.Another complex named La-GDTC was mixed with SBR vulcanizates. Theantioxidative properties and mechanisms of the rare earth complex in SBRvulcanizates were investigated and its antioxidative effect was compared with that ofantioxidant MB,RD and4010NA.It was found that the La-GDTC showed quite good antioxidative effect in theSBR vulcanizates.Through the ultraviolet aging and ozone aging testes,it wasconcluded that the La-GDTC enhanced the ability of SBR vulcanizates to resistultraviolet and ozone aging.The La-GDTC reduced the Akron abrasion volume ofSBR vulcanizates and slightly improved the fatigue life of SBR vulcanizates. In addition,synergistic antioxidants which are La-GDTC mixed with antioxidantMB,RD and4010NA were mixed with SBR vulcanizates.It was found that thesynergistic antioxidants showed better antioxidative effect in SBR vulcanizates thanthat of single antioxidants.Thermal analyses results showed that synergisticantioxidants can improve the thermal degradation temperature of SBR vulcanizates.Through the ultraviolet aging and ozone aging testes,it was concluded that thesynergistic antioxidants can further improve the ability of SBR vulcanizates to resistultraviolet and ozone aging than single antioxidants.The synergistic antioxidantsreduced the Akron abrasion volume of SBR vulcanizates and slightly improved thefatigue life of SBR vulcanizates.
