With the development of freeway, the problem of traffic security becomes severer day by day. As the foundation stone of intelligent traffic, video surveillance is a strong tool to extend the managers' visual field.It enables the managers know the traffic jam and portent of freeway.This research is intent to design a video transmission system based on Gigabit Ethernet to reappear what actually happened on the freeway and provide the access to computer for managers to take appropriate traffic control measures about it.This paper introduces the background, significance, trend, innovation and main content at the beginning. It also briefly narrates some correlative knowledge about digital component video and Gigabit Ethernet. Then the paper describes the module design including operating principle and realization of hardware and software in detail. The logic design of FPGA is the emphasis of this paper. The dealing and restoration of video signal, the control of SDRAM storage, the mapping of Ethernet frame and the control of I2 C-bus slave machine are all implemented by hardware description language which has been simulated by tool Modelsim with perfect result.After simulated,the logical code is synthetized,implemented and then programmed into FPGA. Finally, the paper gives the method of system debugging on board, and summarizes what has been done in the paper and the future developing direction.
