This paper focuses on functional verification of EPA(Ethernet for Plant Automation) chip. EPA chip is a system-level chip based on EPA international standard with intellectual property. As EPA international standard being acknowledged by more and more industrial automation manufacturers, functional verification plays an important role to ensure the performance of EPA chip.Due to its low efficiency and low reusability, traditional verification method can't meet the requirements of functional verification on EPA chip. In order to solve this problem, improve the verification efficiency, completeness and reusability, this thesis puts forward a new verification proposal based on OVM(Open Verification Methodology). The new verification proposal includes a verification platform based on OVM, and a coverage-driven verification strategy with constraint random stimulus and direct stimulus. After detailed analysis on verifcation platform and strategy, this verification proposal is excised on MII receiving module, a sub-module of EPA chip. It reached 100% functional coverage and 95% code coverage within 15 days. It's proved that, compared with traditional verification method, this new proposal increases 130% verification efficiency, enhances 50% verification completeness. It also promotes reusability of verification platform.
