Research On The Game Relationship Between Media And Government Over Group Events

China now has stepped into a stage with increasing social conflicts originated fromdifferent interest groups, which consequently trigger the mass incidents especially inthe transitional period. The occurrence of one mass incident is usually considered as agovernment crisis, because it's likely to cause tragedy or escalate into convulsions ifthere is no good treatment. Furthermore, for media mass incident will be a mediaevent due to its high news value. For these reasons, game started. On the one hand,media should be responsible for an objective reporting. On the other hand,government tends to block or suppress these truths reports in order to maintain thestabilization and avoid negative performance evaluation. Based on this fact, the paperfocused on the relationship between media and government during the occurrence ofmass incident.The paper firstly discussed the reason which induced the frequent happening of massincident during the transitional period in China today. Then, through the media newsreporting in recent year, discussed the roles media and government played whenreporting and facing the mass incident. After that, based on the theories of news frame,and took some reports about mass incidents occurring in recent year from SouthernMetropolis Daily as case studies, analyzed the game relationship between media andgovernment. Through this study, a primary conclusion is that to avoid the conflicts ingame when reporting and facing mass incident, for media they ought to reportproperly and communicate with government and the public actively by the principle;while for government, they should complement the defect of media functions by usingof public relations.The paper analyzed the reason which caused the game relationship during thereporting mass incident, the responsibility and dilemma of media, as well as themisunderstanding resulted from government strong pressure. The effective way ofeliminating these problems should be that: for the social equality, both of governmentand media have to compromise in some way during the Game processes. In other word, the maximum social and economic benefit can be realized only if to balance theinterest of all parties.
