With the advantages of both the ultra-wideband radar and the pulse radar, the micropower impulse radar has a very broad application prospect. Its birth brings a revolution for the use of the detectors and the alarms. As the most unique part of micropower impulse radar, the pulse generating circuit can generate nanosecond pulses as detection signals and has never been applied in the radar.In this paper, the working principle of the micropower impulse radar is introduced concisely on the basis of the UWB technology and the way is described to obtain extremely narrow pulses via the switching characteristic in the semiconductors with the microwave transistors and Schottky diodes as its core. The designed circuit system mainly consists of the noise generator module, rectangular waveform generator module, pulse generator module, pulse delay module, receiver module, differential amplifier module and alarm module, pulse delay module provides the receiver the strobe pulse as the open signal for the sample-selecting gate.Simulate the main module of designed circuit in Multisim10, modify the designed circuit parameters, and then test the main module on the bread board.Design PCB of designed circuit with Protel2004 DXP, and then test on PCB to determine the final parameters of the circuit.The circuit has features of small size, low cost, light weight, stable performance and so on, which can be used in the target orientation, distance measurement, underground imaging, alarm services and the medical areas.
