After the Reform and Opening, China publishing houses which had run as public institutions concerning only production, while neglecting operation began to carry out reform in system. The process of China's publishing industry reform is in fact the exploration of marketization of China publishing industry. In this process, the government functions gradually turned microcosmic to macroscopic, meanwhile, the growing awareness of the operation of press industry and opening in that area improve as the reform goes on.In this paper, the author carried a deep research in the cause and process of marketization of China publishing industry after the reform and opening in China with an integrating research method combined study of literature with qualitative analysis. The cause of exploration of marketization of China publishing industry is extensive. First, the cultural and article property of publishing industry determine the commercialization, pursuing both economic and social benefit; Second, the publishing industry under planned economy is restricted strictly, thus unable to meet the diversity of social needs; Third, as the world integration process is speeding up, China's publishing industry must get rid of the government's control and protection, run and grow independently in competition to face the great impulsion from powerful international media corporation. With the time as an explicit clue, while the reform policy of the government and reform practice of the publishing industry as an implicit clue, the author divided the exploration of the process of commercialization of China's industry into three stages. Three stages respectively are:the initial stage of marketization of China publishing industry, development stage of marketization of China publishing industry and transition stage of marketization of China publishing industry. The three stages of reform practice constitute the three core chapters of the paper. The exploration of marketization of China publishing industry mainly consists of the emergence and development of private publishing houses, the transfer from productive enterprises to operative enterprises, the perfection of protection and transaction of copyright, the construction of publishing enterprises, the transfer from public institution to enterprise unit and corporate system reform. At present, some of publishing group companies of our country have already reorganized and go on the market, and they quickly promote their strength by collecting public funds. There are two other exciting phonomena. One is that publishing group companies of our country are on the way of alliance between giants. State-owned publication unit and individual businesses publishing houses succeeds in restructuring of ownership. This is an unprecedented. The state-owned and private can help each other and do better in the future.The reform of marketization of China publishing industry is dominated by the government, thus there is much literature analysis in this paper. It is easy to find out the basic method and the basic lesson of the reform of the marketization of China publishing industry according to the analysis of the content of the literature, and that is the reform should start from the periphery to the core, from a try to popularity. It is this gradual way of reform smoothes the reform of China publishing industry.The marketization of China publishing industry has achieved great accomplishment during the thirty odd years of reform and opening. However, there are still many problems need further reform. In the last chapter of the paper, the author pointed out many problems in present China's publishing industry in particular, and put forward her views on solving these problems.
