Wireless sensor network is a new area for study for computer science, which has become the hot topic for short-range wireless communication because it has the potential applications in the fields of military affairs, environmental monitoring, biomedical science, emergency rescue, disaster relief and the long-range control for dangerous environment. ZigBee technology is a wireless communication standard for short-range, low-cost, low-data-rate and low-power-consumption, which has been widely used in wireless sensor networks.In this paper, the development situation of the node in China and abroad, the basic framework of the node, the performance index of ZigBee, the functions of each layers for Z-Stack, the frame of Z-Stack and network topology structure are introduced firstly, which provides the theoretical basis for the hardware and software design of the node. Then, the characteristics and performances of each module are analyzed. Combined with the structure characteristics of the classic wireless sensor network node, the SOC design scheme which integrates MCU and RF transceiver is adopted finally. The hardware of the node is designed based on CC2430 chip, because the chip integrates MCU and RF transceiver, which is available for the scheme of this paper.Z-Stack is analyzed and though modifying and developing its application layer, the network connection between coordinator and end device is established successfully, which realize the wireless transmission. The transmission distance of the node is also tested. In addition, the function of temperature measurement is realized by the procedure of the analogue sensor of the chip. Finally, in the lab, the temperature monitoring system of the simulated pesticide storage is established. The end device measure temperature and transmit it to the coordinator, which can be read on the scream of the coordinator. The coordinator connects PC through RS232 bus, so users can watch the changes of the temperature by using computer in the control room.
