BackgroundWith the development of China's society and economy, and the deepening of medical and health system reform, especially the implementation of the new type of rural cooperative medical system, health care conditions of rural residents have been greatly improved. However, rapid growth of health care expenditure, unfair distribution of health resources, the contradiction between demand and supply in health care and the problem of " Medical treatment is difficult and expensive"have seriously affected the willingness of medical care of rural residents, health care direction and effect, which has attracted widespread attention. In recent years, academic study of health care demand of rural residents is more in-depth, but the study of health care direction and effect has been just started, therefore no systematic theoretical system has been developed.ObjectivesThrough the investigation of people seeking medical advices, we aim to understand the willingness of medical care, the direction they are heading to, and the impacts on their decisions. Based on residents'behavior, we analyze the main problem and causes of them so that proper political suggestions could be made to provide better medical services to rural residents.Research MethodsThe research is based on a multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method. The respondents are 2275 country residents who are from 81 villages within 27 towns from 9 cities in Shandong Province, including Penglai, Wendeng, Pingdu, Qingzhou, Yiyuan, Yanggu, Yutai, Yishui and Caoxian. We successfully collected questionnaire and the research had an effective rate of 98.7 percent.Main Results1,The willingness of medical care:the demand of residents who live in countryside shows diversity requirements"multi-layered, high requirement". The common requirements of them are "going to clinic to treat minor illness, and going to hospital in the town to treat serious ones". Therefore, hospital in the village lost their terrain advantage and became "chicken ribs"--- tasteless when eaten but a pity to throw away.2,The direction of medical care:research shows that the directions of people who are under investigated are affected by their gender, age, condition of health, education and income etc. The new type of rural cooperative medical policy benefits the clinic in village. People in the village shows that their willingness departs from their direction when they going to see a doctor.3,The main influences of rural residents'hospitalize direction is affected by the condition of rural cooperative medical policy as well as income and education of residents.Recommendations1,Develop rural economy, increase family income, and enhance the usage of health services for rural residents.2,Enhance the education of rural residents, raising the education level and health awareness.3,Improve the new rural cooperative medical system further; enhance the ability of residents resisting diseases.4,Optimize the layout of the rural health network reasonably; improve the service capacity of primary health care institutions.5,Improve the rural public health system; manage health conditions for rural residents.
