Objective:To study the therapeutic efficacy of pingyangmycin in treatment on maxillofacial lymphatic malformations. Methods:Patients with maxillofacial lymphatic malformations who were treated in Department of Stomatology of Dalian Medical University affiliate NO.1 Hospital with complete record from January,2004 to October,2009 were collected in this study. We conducted a retrospective analysis on the pathogenic factor, type, treatments and therapeutic efficacy of maxillofacial lymphatic malformations to study the therapeutic efficacy of the pingyangmycin treatment. Results:A total of 46 patients were included in this study among which were treated by non-surgical procedure treatment. All the patients were followed up for 0.5 years at average. The improvement after pingyangmycin intralesional injection, less scar, and the satiation of patients were examined to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. The clinical symptoms improved significantly after the treatment. Conclusions:Surgical and non-surgical treatment for maxillofacial lymphatic malformations can achieve good result, when indications are selected appropriately. Pingyangmycin intralesional injection compared with the traditional treatment ways, it has significant advantage and clinical value. Although lymphatic malformations are benign lesions, they seldom involute spontaneously, and their infiltrating nature coupled with the difficulty in distinguishing involved important structure of the head and neck from adjacent normal tissues makes complete surgical extirpation even more difficult. The likelihood of recurrence and complications is thus higher than other vascular lesions. Many treatment protocols are available in clinic ,for example surgical resection, sclerotherapy and laser ablation of lymphatic malformations, due to advantages and disadvantages exist in each modality, the selection of treatment should depend on the patients status and techniques available, the treatment protocol should be individualized and comprehensive as well as sequential,in order to attain the best therapy outcomes in complete cases.
